This is my world. I know this mountain the way a city man knows his own street. I'm utterly self-sufficient. I haven't needed anyone in over twelve years. And I don't intend to start now.

I see no reason for my life to change. Just because a beautiful woman appeared out of nowhere and squirreled herself away in my cabin, that's not going to alter the way I do things or see the world.

But she needs me. She needs me, or she wouldn't be here, trying so hard to please me. Needs a place to stay, a roof over her head, a little food to eat. And perhaps- protection?

She's quiet and a good cook. Better yet, she stays out of my way.

I've decided. I'll let her stay with me for now.

After all, how much trouble can one little Squirrel really be?
