I don't know how I felt about being sent away to live with my grandmother.
My parents always acted strangely whenever I asked about her when I was younger. Now, I was a teenager about to graduate into the world of adulthood and my grandmother had sent a letter, stating how she wanted me to live with her.
I didn't know much about where my family came from. I only knew one thing. My grandmother didn't approve of my parents' marriage. My grandmother was my father's mother. I don't know why she didn't approve of my mother but that was why we lived in a city far away from her.
To be honest, I don't know what kind of person she is.
All I know is that throughout my whole life, my parents were not bad people. My mother wasn't a bad person. I think she was kind. So I couldn't figure out why my grandmother would be against my parents' marriage.
I thought it was even more strange that even though my father had married against grandmother's wishes and moved away, he would comply with her wishes and send me away to live with her.
It was strange because my father was never unkind to me. He was never unkind to my mother. Maybe grandmother wasn't a bad person, and that's why he didn't mind sending me to her, but it still didn't make sense when I tried to think more about it.
Either way, it didn't change the fact that I was now under a roof I was not familiar with. The person in front of me was a stranger I had never met before. She was my grandmother and yet she felt like a stranger to me.
Although, she did resemble much of my father. She had the same dark red hair that my father and I shared, along with the same baby blue eyes. Except there was one clear difference. Father's face and mine were both gentle looking. Whereas, my grandmother in front of me, her face looked strict... and a little scary.
I genuinely wondered why my father sent me here all on my own without my mother and himself following me. Was he afraid of grandmother? Because I certainly was.
"Do you know who I am, child?" Her voice was hard and I shivered when I looked into her eyes.
I gulped the dry lump in my throat.
"Y-You are my grandmother." My voice was quieter than I anticipated.
My grandmother's eyes hardened and she stepped closer.
Everything about this person was cold and hard, it was difficult for me to believe that she was my father's mother. It was even harder to believe that my father would send me here to live with her all on my own. She didn't seem like the warm family type of person.
Everything about this situation made me question my parents, now that I was in front of a person who's very existence seemed extremely scary.
"Yes. I am Cyrene Ellis, your grandmother."
I wasn't sure if she wanted me to saying anything but I remained silent either way. I was too nervous to say anything.
"It seems my son has failed to teach you what it means to be born into the Ellis family. From today onwards, I will be the one to educate you. You will not leave until I approve. Is that understood?"
"Y-Yes," I answered.
It's not like she left me any choice.
