Running down the end of the corridor was two individuals, both young in their appearance. A boy with medium-sized height and short hair, he wore a kimono with sleeves that covered his entire hands. Running alongside him while holding his hand was a tall girl with her hair in a ponytail. They both had extremely white pale skin, gray-colored kimonos, and wore white masks designed with red markings. The boy wore the mask of the fox while the girl wore the mask of the cat.
The masked teenagers were breathing heavily as they were slid across the perfectly clean wooden floor of the temple. They refused to even slow down as they tried to find the exit.
"Y-YIN!"
Hearing his name being called, the boy turned to the girl whose head was completely facing the other direction. Judging by the fright coming from her voice, Yin understood what his partner saw was bad news.
And bad news was the correct wording.
Exploding out from the wall was a monster of horrific propositions. An overweight monster that was the size of a trunk, made of sweaty disgusting human flesh. Its face was covered in green and blue eyes and it had a massive mouth on its stomach drooling everywhere. On the side where its ribs should be were four arms, similar to the workings of a spider. On the palm of the monster's hands was a big black Japanese symbol that translated to "Key".
The creature let out a disgusting roar that would deafen any normal human being and crawled towards them like a baby would when seeing its favorite toy. But contrast to a baby, the crawling speed of the monster was ridiculous quick to the point that's head was basically touching the backs of the two masked teenagers.
"Y-Yin--"
"I'm on it!"
In the span of a second, Yin let go of the girl's hand and turned to the monster. He quickly rummaged through his kimono pocket and took out a red talisman that had red Japanese letters inscribed within it. "Flames of Hell" was the translation. And instantly, the moment the talisman faced the monster, the letters on the paper began to glow with a blinding light. Following the light was a gigantic explosion that covered the entire area in intense flames. The raging fire burned everything including the monster who was screaming while being burned alive.
The girl and boy stopped and looked on at the fiery wall, trying to see any form of life moving. They scanned the entire area and saw nothing but orange and yellow lights.
But just before the two masked teenagers could even let out a sigh of relief, four things burst out of the firewall like bullets. Coming out were four massive flies that were the size of bulldogs, their gross eyes landing on their targets.
"This just won't end!"
Yin snarled in irritation.
As the flies zoomed towards them, Yin stood his ground. Popping out of the massive sleeves were shining curved blades. As the flies approached Yin, he began to spin like a top becoming unrecognizable in human form. Two of the monster flies were sliced into perfectly cut pieces while the other two tried to fly away.
However, Yin was not merciful. He jumped towards the flies, easily reaching their height. With two simple slashes, he killed the two creatures, ending the chase with simple retaliation.
Yin scoffed with his eyes gleamed confidently.
"Did you truly think that was enough to defeat me?"
"YIN!"
The scream of the masked girl alerted Yin, but it was too late.
"H-huh?"
Like a bolt of lightning, a black spear came out of the right side of the wall and pierced Yin on the side of his arm. The masked boy gasped in shock and pain as the sudden attack was strong enough to launch him to the other side of the temple, bouncing him off the floor. Each bounce left a massive crack on the ground, showcasing just the amount of weight the force of the attack was.
Right at the center of the clean floor was Yin who was on the ground, struggling to get up and bleeding black blood from the spear that was stuck in him.
"Yin! Hold on!"
The masked girl ran to the side of the injured Yin and pulled the spear out of his arm with one yank. The boy screamed in pain but was immediately shushed by his partner who put her right hand on the wound. A soft white light glowed out of her hand which brought a very soothing sensation to the injury Yin sustained. Softly, his wails began to die down.
But the two masked teenagers would not even get a moment of peace as the wall in front of them exploded. Coming out of the newly made hole was an intimidating man in black samurai armor. He wore a mask that resembled a demon, covering his identity, but his eyes flashed like small stars in the night sky. In both hands were two spears--the same type of spear Yin had just hit with.
"Kanshi-sa..."
The masked girl said in a low voice full of dread.
The samurai dubbed Kanshi-sa let out a heavy breath--steam spewing out of the corners of his mask. He aims his spear at the two masked individuals, proclaiming a challenge.
Yin tried to get him, in an attempt to accept the challenge, but his wound forced him to stay still. Seeing her partner in pain made the masked girl seethed. She turned to the perpetrator of her injured comrade and stood up.
"Y-Yang!?"
Yin called out to the girl known as Yang who began to stare down the powerful monster before them.
"W-what are you--"
Yang holds her left hand out and summons a black scabbard. With one yank, she pulled out a perfectly made katana with a metal shine that matched the beauty of a diamond. She stood with such grace that humans would bow and assume she was a sort of deity.
"We've come too far, Yin," Yang spoke without looking at her partner. "Don't you want to see it too...?"
Yin tried to speak but quickly silenced himself from what he was going to say first. He instead let out a heavy sigh and forced himself to stand.
"You're right..."
Despite his injury, Yin stood right next to Yang with his blades out. Both of their red eyes flashed madly.
"We swore...to get our memories back right...my love?"
Kanshi-sa let out a monstrous roar as the two masked spirits charged at him. The start of a battle that would shake the foundation of the Spirit World.
