I woke with a jolt as my alarm went off. Slowly I get up, I can already tell it's going to be another “normal” day. Well normal for me anyways. As I head downstairs, you can hear my parents yelling. I quickly duck into the bathroom. I can already feel today's panic rising. I quickly shower and brush my teeth and hair. Then to finish off the first step of my schedule I get dressed and leave the house before my parents can notice me. My house is not too far from the school, so I choose to walk there. Its only about a 12-minute walking distance. This is my last chance to calm myself down before the second step my day begins.
As the school comes into view I try and breath the best I can. When I get to the front doors, I keep my head down, as the feeling of being stared at creeps over me. Finally, I make it to my classroom and sit in my seat in the back by the window. As the other kids talk around their desks together, I'm staring out the window day dreaming hoping no one approaches me. Though I can dream it did not happen today. As normal Milo Davis the kid who sits in front of me always has something to say, as if I listen anymore.
“Well I see your still here and kicking.”
Milo says as he approaches his seat. As I continue to stare out the window pretending, he’s not there, he decides the best course of action is to slap me. It’s not so much as it hurt but the noise it made got the attention of the others in the classroom. The only lucky thing that happened to me this morning is the fact the teacher saw it happen. As Milo was sent out of the room, I gave him a smirk, though all he did back was give me a “you're so not getting away with this look”. Yes, I know later he’ll make me pay, cause it’s Clearly my fault he has poorly timed slapping skills.
Luckily the stares died down quick thanks to the teacher or I probably would have run out of there in a panic. As class started, she went over a new project we must do. All I know about it is that it has something with science, to be honest I was not really listening to much. Finally, after about 10 minutes something catches my attention.
“For this project you will be working with partners.”
Mrs. Garcia says. While everyone looks around to their friends, I know I'm doomed. The worst part was that was not the end of it.
“Your partners will be picked by me.”
she continues. As everyone sighed or growled, I felt a sense of relief and fear. While most would of course hate the fact that they don’t get to pick their partners, it’s a lot worse for me. The only people who talked to me are the one who wanted to make their point across they want nothing to do with me. While other students wanted to say something, they kept to themselves.
she then pulls out a list which we can only assume is a list of partners. I start hearing whispers of who will be put with who, and to my luck I hear a few “I hope I'm not put with River.” Though I don’t blame them who would want to work with me, they would most likely become a target for bullying also. As the teacher started calling names the panic inside of me was rising. As she gets towards the bottom of the list, I hear my name.
” River Anderson, and Dustin White.”
Mrs. Garcia announces. Slowly my breathing picks up as the whole class turns and looks at me.
