PROLOGUE
“Hah….hah”
It hurts….
The wet broken branches and crude grounds pierces the two running feet. Trampling over fallen old trees, strangling branches, and the occasional rocks.
“Haa…Haaa”
A small fragile body pushes against the rain and wind, pushing through the tough terrain. He doesn’t know where he’ running, and strangely doesn’t know why either. All he knows is that there is this fear enveloping his mind. He squints trying to see through the darkness that veiled the forest.
I can’t see…
Blood starts to run down his bare arms and legs. Only a thinned white silk shirt and shorts covered his bronzed body. The rain making the wounds sting, he winces with each scratch and pierce.
He runs into the side of a large tree, his left shoulder falling victim to the rugged bark, “Ugh.” He stops and pants, holding his now injured shoulder. He looks up to the night sky with his bright cyan eyes. “Hah…haa…” he tries to catch his breath.
He stares up at the moon, crescent in shape - barely able to illuminate his surroundings, if at all. Not like the full moon he always watched… but where? Where did he watch it? Where was it he came from? As his breathing settled a bit, he saw a ray of white light.
Are those stars? The moon? No…
He quickly heard a blaze, a black helicopter flew above, shinning a spot light side to side. The young man gasps in horror.
No…
The fear that overtook him, comes pouring in ten fold. Without hesitance, he begins to run into darkness. The horrible loud noise from the helicopter pounds into his head. It’s jarring with each blade. As the panic sets in fully, a sign of a miracle came into view.
Lights.
Without realization, he runs faster towards these dimmed lights. Maybe a house? Or a village hut? Something that he can take cover and hide. Just anything.
SPLASH!
He gargles, water is coming into his mouth, his body wrapped in freezing chilling water. He swims up and takes a huge breath and coughs violently. “Ahhhh…cough…..cough….” He doesn’t have time to be phased by the freezing waters. He starts to swim through the dark lake. With each stroke it sounds like an explosion.
They’ll find me.
They’ll find me.
Then what? What will happen? Who are they?
Nothing is coming back, all he knows is this raw emotion of fear and the animalistic way of running away from the danger. Tears begin to trickle down his cheeks, with each drop being swept away into the vast lake waters.
Please let someone be here, God please! Please God, let there be somebody!
He begged for someone to help him, someone good. Just anyone will do as long as they can relinquish this fear inside him.
As he makes it to the embankment of the lake, he sees a rustic wooden dock. He pants and gasps for breath as he wraps his arms on top the dock. Then, the horrible blade sound comes.
Whup-Whup-Whup
The white lights above come swinging back and forth, searching the forests he was just in.
Whup-Whup-Whup
The helicopter passes the trees and begins to head towards his direction.
NO! NO! NO!
With all his strength, he pulls his wet body up onto the dock, he looks ahead and sees a wooden patio area with grand glass doors, dim lights flood out from the glass and onto the patio. For the first time, the fear is subsiding and without thinking, he rushes to his feet and sprints towards those beautiful lights.
What probably are seconds, feel like minutes - as if time slowed - while he tramples to the glass doors, the sound of the helicopter seems to have gotten louder… faster….
WHUPWHUPWHUPWHUP
It melds with his heartbeat, with each inch closer he holds his breath.
BADUMPWHUPBADUMPWHUPBADUMPWHUP
Then as he reaches the doors, the sounds stop and time goes back to normal. A sigh of relief as he lies his small body against the cold glass. He breathes heavily upon the doors. His breath fogging on it. He slips his frail hands down to the slim door handles, he moves them down.“What?”
His eyes widen in terror as the door handles do not fully push down - the doors are locked. “No…. no no no no no no no!” He pushes and jiggles the handles. He quickly escalates to using his body to slam into the middle frame of the doors. BAM! BAM! BAM! He slams harder with each thrust. The sounds of the black bird in the sky come crashing into his head. Whup-Whup-Whup…
“Come on…!” He hisses through his teeth.
SLAM-BADUMP-SLAM
WHUP-WHUP-WHUP
The noises meld together in a terrifying melody.
SLAMBADUMPSLAMBADUMPWHUPWHUPSLAMWHUPBADUMSLAMBADUMPWHUPWHUPBADUMPSLAMSLAMBADUMPSLAM
Then finally a sound of relief of wood breaking, and with one more slam, his body flings pass the doors. He falls right onto the ground. The frantic young man looks up to see a tall, disheveled man before him. With a hot coffee in one hand he looks down on the wet thing that just burst through his expensive French glass doors.
Lying in front of him was a gasping beautiful young male. Drenched, messy, with barely any clothes to shield him from the dangerous elements at this time of year. His brilliant cyan eyes looked upon him with desperation and pain. His blue violet hair darkened from the rain sticks to his face and neck.
The tall man gives a laid back questionable look as he nonchalantly sips from his coffee mug. The young pretty thing reaches one arm up to him, as if asking for help. Suddenly, the wet beauty collapses onto his side.
“Fuck. My floors.” The man walks over to the fainted stranger on his auburn imported floors. He pushes his body with his foot, moving the small thing onto his back. As he does, he notices something down below his belly button, above his pelvic region.
A massive X engraved into his skin.
“Well shit.”
The man takes another sip from his coffee mug, tiredly sighs, then proceeds to reach for his cellphone from his pants' pocket.
