The sun drifted in through my window as I lay in bed, struggling to wake up after another long night of training. Every day for the past four weeks has been pretty much the same. I wake up as soon as the sun shines through my window, study different magic and fighting styles with Koran from after breakfast till lunch. After lunch I train with Jesper till the moon is half high into the sky. But today was going to be different.
Today, I get to learn my first fire spell. Koran and I have been studying as much as we could about dragon lore; and he believes that with the proper training, I could very well master every element. For most people, fire is a dangerous element to practice. Not because it's hard to cast, but because it's hard to control. Fire is the only element that continues to grow after you've stopped supplying mana. It is incredibly easy to create fire through magic, however it is not so easy to extinguish it. Fire born through magic has its own unique properties. For one, magic can help fire to burn on anything, even water. If you use magic to light a torch, you can leave a dense mass of mana behind to act as fuel, making it so that the fire can burn for ages or at least until you remember to extinguish or refuel the spell.
Sadly, though, it seems that the people here learn magic a tad different than i do. Rather than simply learning the magic from the world around them, they must train and study 10x as hard to simply be able to understand the topic of magic. Since i have unlocked my abilities, it has become very clear that i should not share the specifics of my power and lineage(...did my mother sleep with a dragon?) to anyone I dont trust 100%.
As I layed in bed, a slight chill ran across my leg. Looking around the room a soft crackle could be heard from beyond. Beyond the door or window, i couldn't tell, but it gave me a foreboding feeling. Within seconds the creeping cold intensified, I could hear the shutters slamming and bricks cracking from the ice and wind slamming into them. Screams were muffled under the sudden blizzard. One voice could be heard clearly however. A small laugh, sounding like a man almost 25, could be a father. It gradually grew in intensity over the course of 5-8 seconds, bringing all the city mage's attention to him.
He was holding a beautiful light blue ice staff, though it seems just as dangerous if it were to be used as a melee weapon. It looked kind of like an icy trident, if you took the outer two prongs and twisted them in a circular fassion around the center. He held the staff with just one hand, but it's not that he had the option. His left arm was missing from the elbow down, in its place was a stump of frozen blood that was in dire need of a healer's care. "Today!" His voice fresh, but I could tell that he was quite stressed and emotional from the amount of struggle he put into his words. "Today, everyone here will DIE!" when he finished his death threat he simply continued his vile cackle again and started casting his spell.
At that moment Koran burst into my room, full battlemage armor. I'd never seem him look so ready for battle before. His eyes stole a glance out the window, which was now shattered and letting in the chilled air from the battle, before staring at me and stepping forward. "As you might remember from the first day i promised to bring you here, you are a dragon. Or rather, you have dragon's blood running through your veins." He took another pause to look out the window. The city's battlemages were letting loose multiple attacks at once, bombarding the ice mage from every direction. But even that didn't seem to be working. "The man outside, who commands the ice magic. He is like you. He is likely here to specifically kill you. Dragons can feel when other dragons are near. But don't worry, he is simply trying to do the exact thing that you are going to do. I know i promised to train you with fire magic, but there are alternatives for those with the blood of the dragons running through them. As you learned when you were younger, you can learn abilities directly from the mana particles making up the world. Another way, however, is to kill another dragon." At this point I could feel cold sweat running down my back and chest, he wants me to KILL A DRAGON? WHAT?
I mean, I guess it's not all bad. I am a dragon after all. But still, to kill one when i only have two spells and very little martial arts training? That's rough man.
Embark on a Journey with a young man who's never felt power of his own. Join Drol as he strives to find the last of the dragon race, uncover hidden secrets, and build his strength to the top.
