It was the next morning, but Noah did not feel a bit refreshed. Last night he kept on tossing and turning, unable to sleep as though he was missing something.
He felt empty. His wolf let out a doleful sound, in empathy for Noah's emotions. Both of them knew that it was the lack of touch from the alpha that made him be this way.
Knock knock
"Noah? It's time to go? Are you ready? " Elenor walked in but was surprised at what she saw. Noah had deep dark eye circles, and his pale skin looked sickly. It seemed the poor omega did not sleep well.
'Oh dear. This was even worse than I had anticipated," she thought with a grave face. However, nothing she could do would help to alleviate the pain of forced mate separation. Only his mate would be able to soothe it. Noah would have to bear with it until the next week, when he would be able to meet his mate during the special event.
She smiled, "Let's get you ready so you can meet your classmates! I'm sure you would love to meet them. "
Noah stared nervously at the doors. One push and he would officially meet his classmates, and start courses.
Elenor stood behind Noah for who knows how many minutes before deciding to take matters into her own hands. She went around him and pushed the doors open herself. She knew that if she had waited any longer, the day would have ended, and she couldn't have that happening. After all, even though she was retired, she was still a busy woman.
The class went silent, and then a feminine voice cried out.
"Ahh! Ms. Elenor! Is this the new student, Noah?" A feminine voice said. She had spectacles, seeming not much older than Ma'am Elenor herself. Her hair was a pale blonde color, and her clothes were sophisticated. Her face contained deep frown lines—her demeanor made people think that she was not someone to be trifled with. However, she was currently sporting a wide smile.
"Yes, Teacher Begonia."
"Well, Noah... I'll be heading off. Try to get along with your seat-mates alright?" Elenor said, a smile never leaving her face.
Noah felt the entire class turn around and stare at him.
"It's a boy!" one piped up.
"An alpha? No-" Another one mumbles out.
"A male omega?" One questioned.
"It's the first time I've seen one."
"Goodness, he's so tall!"
But most importantly, 'he's beautiful', they all thought dazedly to themselves. A few girls blushed at their thoughts.
They noticed Noah sweeping his eyes across the room as though he were taking note of each individual face. His face looked as though it had been blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. His eyes were warm like a mid-summer day. His hair shone like the stars—locks so silky that it seemed that the comb would easily pass through. However, one odd thing was the way he looked melancholy. They could also not ignore the bags under his eyes.
'Poor dear, many of the people sent here had trouble with their own mates. It wasn't only filled with single alphas and omegas. ' They thought in sympathy that, hopefully, it would work out in the end.
"Alright, students! Settle down. Please welcome your new classmate, Noah. He will only be here for a few weeks and can be considered a temporary student. " The teacher at the podium turned to face him and said, "Consider these girls as your family, Noah. You'll only see them from now on. Of course, there are many other omega classes. However, we stick together and become as close to a pack as we can to prevent those who are forcefully separated from their mates from feeling excluded. "Alright, class is about to begin, so please find yourself a seat."
The girls continued to chitter to their seat-mates, their eyes sparkling with curiosity as they tried to sneak glances at the omega behind them. They hoped that class would end quickly to allow them to talk to the new transfer student. Luckily, due to Noah's timid nature, he had missed half of class already as he stood nervously in front of the class doors. They would be able to talk to him much earlier than if he had entered when class had begun.
Noah, however, did not notice the stares; he was completely absorbed in what the lesson was going to be about. Other than his mother, he never actually received proper education about omega's themselves. He wanted a deeper understanding of his own biology and wondered if what he did before his presentation—when he thought he was an alpha—affected him in a negative way. It was the first time in a while he had these types of thoughts. Usually they were filled with wanting his alpha's attention.
The teacher knocked her ruler onto her desk again to get the class to quiet down. She had allowed the talking for a few minutes, but now she was in her serious teaching mode. The students saw this and were the picture of perfection. Not one student was speaking and the room was covered in silence.
The teacher turned around and began writing on the chalkboard. 'Core Values of the Omega Mind.'
Noah's eyes flashed at those words, unknowing what they meant.
"Can anyone tell me what these values are?"
"Yes, Estell."
The girl she called on was tall, with fiery red hair. Her skin tone was sun-kissed, but Noah was unable to see her face. Her voice was deep and bold; sounding as though she were the commander of a platoon.
"The core values are: respect yourself and others; knowledge is the key to happiness; strength lies from within." She said this without cutting corners.
The teacher smiled, "Can anyone explain what Estell means by this?"
Another girl raised her hand. She was short with blonde brunette hair and green eyes. Overall, it appears a bit mousy, but cute.
"Yes, Vi."
"Respect is not bought, but given. The way you respect yourself is how others will perceive you to be. " She fidgeted with her hands, "With knowledge, people will look up to you in admiration. Without knowledge, you will not lead the life you would obviously wish it to be. You will be looked down upon." And lastly, "Willpower is the key to success. You could be the best fighter in the world, but without willpower you will easily be overpowered by the rest."
"Thank you, Vi. Do you know why the core values are important? " She asked her students.
Everyone shook their heads. She smiled, "Well? Anyone? " She looked around, looking for an unsuspecting student. "What about you, Noah?"
Noah jumped in fright, surprised that he was called on his first day of courses. He gulped, throat clogged. He truly did not know why these values were important...
"Go on." she urged.
Everyone turned their attention towards him. He began to sweat from the sight. After all, back at the village, he was mostly a loner—shunned at times by the Omega females. He had no one he was close to except his own parents, and he did not even make any friends with any of the other alphas.
"They provide, err-umm, they could be applied towards..." He wracked through his thoughts, "Towards us omegas?" He flushed. He thought he sounded a bit ignorant. After all, he thought he would present an alpha instead of an omega.
Teacher Begonia nodded, "That's part of the reason. Thank you, Noah."
The tips of Noah's ears turned red at the praise. He raised his hand to cover half of his face, not wanting the others to see his soft smile.
The other students saw this action, and their hearts squeezed from the innocence Noah portrayed.
"It's because these core values are what make up the omega, and how you will be one day with your partner and children. Mates must first treat each other with respect. Knowledge, of course, is not only for yourself but for your children and spouse. The best teachers are the parents. The alpha must be taught right from wrong, otherwise we omegas will die without the proper care and attention we need to survive. Many omegas are not strong, so we must rely on our intelligence. Willpower is important in life-threatening situations such as protecting our children. When the mother gives up, the child dies together with the mother. The alpha must learn to accept that their mates are equal to themselves and hold the same amount of power over them as they do over us."
Noah looked at his teacher with admiration in his eyes. During his entire stay with Gael, none of these three values were told to him, not even in his village when his mother was teaching him about omega customs. He didn't think he crossed off any of the values himself.
"Tomorrow, we will be talking about the omega's reproductive system and self-care;with and without an alpha. Goodness~ Look at the time! Class is dismissed. You may now head to lunch." Teacher Begonia immediately headed out of the classroom, determined to grab a spot at the teacher’s lounge before it got too crowded.
The girls quickly got up from their chairs and bombarded Noah with questions. Overwhelmed, Noah chuckled in nervousness before they all suddenly backed away and introduced themselves, remembering their manners. They all started talking amongst themselves as though nothing was out of the ordinary, treating Noah the same as everyone else.
After a while, Noah felt himself begin to calm down. Feeling more comfortable, he smiled, deciding to join in on their conversation. The first person he spoke to was the omega sitting closest to him. He smiled as she became flustered, 'They must be shy like me."
The omega speaking to him felt like the luckiest girl in the world—Her eyes became blinded by the soft smile Noah gave her; inside she felt as though she were about to have her existence erased from the world by sheer beauty. 'How envious.' She could feel the other's eyes stabbing her in the back, as the others felt spite as they wanted to be on the receiving side of the smile as well.
'Oh well,' They thought, at least Noah seemed happier than he did earlier. They would have to ask Rupe how wonderful the smile felt later, seeing as she got the front row seat to it.
