I wake hearing someone calling my name. I sit up only to remember where I am.
“Good your awake, we have about an hour till school, want something to eat?” Dustin says looking at me.
“No thanks” I tell him as my stomach growls. I blush as this became embarrassing.
“Are you sure you don’t want anything” He asks me while chuckling.
“I will have something small I guess.” Still embarrassed I say.
I slowly get up and we both make our way downstairs. I notice his parents are already gone, it's so quiet. He walks over the freezer and pulls out waffles.
“Do you like waffles?” Dustin asks me.
I nod. This feels so weird. A quiet house, parents are gone, and eating breakfast. He puts the waffles in a toaster he grabbed out from a cabinet. After about 10 minutes we are both sitting across from each other at a table in a room attached to the kitchen. He begins to eat. I'm caught up in my thought again as I think about the last time I sat at a table with people. It had to been at least 3 years. I hear Dustin saying my name, so I look up towards him.
“River, I have calling your name. Are you okay? You have been just staring at your food.”
I try putting on a soft smile. “Ah, sorry about that, I'm fine.”
I begin to eat my waffles, feeling Dustin still staring at me. We finish and clean up and head outside. Dustin motions for me to follow him, so I do. We reach a car parked on the side of the rode and he gets in. I follow behind.
“I hope you're okay with me driving us to school, if we walked, we would be late.” I look over at him and nod, then buckle.
As we passed by my house, I saw my dad heading out of the house. Flinching down making sure he can't see me; I see Dustin peering over at me. He does not say anything, but I can tell he wanted to. After was reached the school we are heading towards the building. We both had to go to the same room. He stayed by my side as we walked in.
People were looking at us, it might have something to do with that it was us walking together. I don’t blame them why was a popular kid hanging out with me. The board in class instructed is to sit with our partners where we last class. As we sat down, I looked out the window as normal, but from the corner of my eye I see Dustin's friends coming over. “Just great” was all I could mumble to myself.
