The evening went on with no more hiccups. I wasn’t needed at all. Ares entertained almost one half of the club, while Apollo entertained the other. It was always easier when the gods arrived because they never really caused a scene. They came here to have fun, and part of that cost money. And the gods paid well.
I walked to Apollo’s quarter and stepped inside. He was on the sofa, drinking. He glanced at me but didn’t pay me anymore attention as Dion whispered something in his ear. He chuckled and turned his head towards the faun, grabbing his chin and kissing him.
I folded my hands on my back and decided to stare into open space. I was here for the workers’ protection. Not that they needed it, but the longer I was here, the less time I had to spend in Ares’ section. And that was a complete win.
“Hey! Dog!” Apollo called out, his arm around Dion’s neck.
I caught Dion’s gaze, silently asking if he needed help. He only smiled at me, as if he had no cares in the world.
Then it was Apollo who needed me. I stepped forward and offered him a slight bow.
“My new friend told me of your heroic rescue.” Apollo smiled but I didn’t like his smile. It was like he was saying something but what he said wasn’t matching with his intentions. And I hated people like that.
“Just doing my job.” I nodded and was about to step back again.
“What exactly is your job?” His gaze wandered over my body and I clenched my hands on my back.
“I make sure workers are safe.”
“Oh, a guard. How boring. You could make so much more doing something else. Would you like that?” He turned to Dion. “I haven’t been fucked by a large man in a long time. No offence.”
Dion chuckled and reached for a glass of champagne. “No offence taken. He’s hot.” He looked at me over the rim of his glass and his smile widened.
“Maybe he’d like to play with both of us.” Apollo received a kiss on the cheek from Dion.
A lot of images ran through my mind and none of them were pure. I stepped back and looked down at the floor. I wasn’t allowed to do that. That’s not how my contract worked. If I was entertaining patrons, how could I make sure everyone were safe?
But I did want to.
“Maybe he can watch.” Apollo chuckled and brought Dion closer again, running his hand under Dion’s shirt. And then his hand travelled down to his trousers, undoing them. I allowed myself to notice the flush in Dion’s cheeks before I stepped out. We also had a very serious privacy policy.
I did not want to lose my job tonight.

I closed the door behind me and dropped my keys in the bowl on the dresser in the small hallway. I was exhausted and ready to go to bed. I sat down at the foot of it and pulled my shirt over my head. I checked my phone, only to find I had gotten a text. I opened it and my eyes widened a bit.
Thank you for rescuing me.

I couldn’t help but smile a little. It was always nicer when you had good friends at work. I had Oliver and Strawberry, of course. We’d sometimes get a drink after work too. It was nice. Maybe we could add another person to our little group.
I didn’t know what to reply. Would you’re welcome be too cheesy? And it’s not like I wasn’t just doing my job. I was. He didn’t have to thank me like this.
I put my phone on the bedside table and dumped down on my back. I looked up at the ceiling and sighed deeply. It had been a fine night. I was just tired. And weird.
I rolled onto my side and grabbed my phone again, looking at the text. Why was I always such a freak?
I turned the phone off again and put it back on the table. It didn’t matter what I replied. He wasn’t a normal guy. And I wasn’t a normal guy.
I put my arm across my face, determined to go to sleep. And ignore my phone.
