By the time the gang arrived at the nearest marketplace, the sun was rising over the horizon. The streets were barren, asking for trouble. The counters of each stall had been wiped clean, as if the day before were just a dream. Enya could hardly recall the towering counter tops now.
Noah motioned to walk into the open street, causing Enya to press an arm against his chest to prevent him from moving further. Noah stared at her in shock.
“Wait a moment. We don't know if it's safe yet. They could be waiting.” Noah glanced around the marketplace, his shoulders tense. Enya removed her arm. “Belia, make sure no one moves from this spot until I return.” Belia nodded once and watched as Enya climbed the nearest tree, her skilled movements keeping her from looking away for a moment. Belia shook her head and averted her eyes to Noah and Pandora, who watched Enya in amazement.
Enya climbed to a branch a few feet from the top and scanned the area. The closest person walked a few streets away, heading in the opposite direction. Enya could tell by their sluggish movements they were drunk.
They're probably headed home, Enya thought, searching elsewhere. It's fine for now, but by the looks of it, we still have some time until people swarm the place. We should stay here until then.
Enya began to climb down, wondering how she would deal with the clingy Pandora. Compared to Noah, Pandora was a thousand times worse. Enya never knew how much closer Pandora would try to get, where as Noah would drop the subject.
Her feet landing on the leaf-scattered earth, Enya stated, “They're not here, but I still think it's wise to remain here until people start crowding the marketplace.” Pandora clapped her hands together.
“Good idea! We can get to know each other better.”
Enya sighed, saying, “You guys can. I'm going to catch some more sleep while I can. You never know when it'll be your last for a while.”
Pandora dropped her shoulders, muttering, “You're right.” Noah looked between Enya's stern gaze and Pandora's wounded one.
“Well, if it's settled, Belia and I will make a bed over here.” Noah looked behind him to see Belia already pushing leaves together into a pile with her nose. He chuckled to himself, “Already on it, huh?” Belia lifted her head and let out a short bark, her eyes crinkled proudly, before going back to her pile big enough for the both of them. Noah looked back to the girls to see Enya beginning to climb the tree once more.
“I'll be up here. You guys get some sleep,” she told him.
Pandora watched Enya climb before saying in a voice that made Noah's heart ache, “I don't think she likes me very much.” Noah opened his mouth to reply, but Pandora walked past him to a tree a few feet away. She sat against its large trunk and closed her eyes.
“I don't know why you would like her,” Noah whispered, glancing up the tree to where he could vaguely see Enya gazing over the marketplace like Belia searching for food. I thought you were going to sleep.

“Let's blend in,” Enya told everyone as they entered the marketplace. The crowd was already too much for Enya, but she grit her teeth and kept moving. “If you see anyone suspicious, find the rest of us right away.”
Noah looked behind him to see Belia propped on a tree branch high enough to overlook the marketplace. Her cool eyes stared him down, watching his every move. Noah averted his gaze. He didn't want to warn someone of her existence.
“Got it,” Noah told Enya. Enya looked to Pandora for her answer but found she was gone. Noah let out a chuckle, pointing behind Enya.
Behind her, Pandora chatted up a girl with mysterious, short, black hair and a kind smile. The girl giggled as Pandora pushed a strand of hair behind her own ear.
“Your eyes are gorgeous. It's like they delve deep into my soul and fill me with butterflies,” Pandora told the girl. Enya noticed the girl's eyes. It almost looked like the forest gave birth to her with how green they were.
“Aww, thank you so much. I don't know if I can compete with your hair, though.”
“This? This has nothing on your beauty. Every inch of you looks perfect.” The girl's eyes widened, her tan skin quickly looking feverish.
From beside her, Enya heard Noah say, laughing to himself, “No wonder she likes you.” Of course, his efforts to woo Pandora went unheeded. He wasn't her type, at all. Enya narrowed her eyes.
“Can't be. I gave her no reason to like me.”
