When I started Scumbags, I was a very different person. Since I started drawing it, I’ve gone through what has been one if not the the darkest time of my life. that seems to be the big problem with webcomics. They take so long to make, and life keeps happening in the meantime.
I realized I don’t want to continue Scumbags as it is.
I haven’t lost interest in the comic but i *have* lost interest in its current direction and tone, as it reflects my personal life too closely.
HOWEVER.
A webcomic doesn’t belong solely to the artist, It belongs to the readers as well.
You’ve been more kind, patient and supportive than I probably deserve. It wouldn’t be fair to disappear or silently drop the comic without involving you.
So the question is pretty much… what do YOU want? Do you want the story to continue? Are you ok with changes? Is there anything you think could be improved or changed if I were to continue it? And so on and so forth. I know this is a very open ended question, but I hope you understand what I’m getting at. I’m willing to listen to any feedback except for “do what feels right/makes you happy”’s because I specifically need external feedback.
Hey. As a fellow creator/reader, I'm eyes open to what you have in mind as far as changes go. You've worked hard on this project, and maybe it's gonna have a huge revamp right now or in the near future--that's exciting as hell. That's art for you. No need to carry on with something that isn't true to you anymore.
glad to see the comic back and you are better off. The sad needs to be seen with the happy. The bad with the good. You went dark, some light will/should make the dark part amd the new stuff a better work. Dude, I love your work and want more of it in anyway you want to go.
Art is always a tricky subject, especially when it comes to comics. It's dedicating a large portion of your own time into creating a story of your own. I think the decision of where you want to take your story is up to you. Many may have input of where they'd like to see the story end up but you should always have the final saying. Ultimately, you're the story's creator, if you want to make a radical shift in tone you can do that, if you want to give your characters a break, you can do that. In the end it's your creation and no one else's. If you feel like there's no passion left and that every page is a drag to make then maybe you should put it to the side for now or just toss it away. In the end your well-being as a person is more important than any piece of fiction. If you were to continue the story I'd be excited to see any new bold directions.
Just a quick post to let you know I'm also posting full resolution pages and previews of future pages on patreon still, but I changed the URL so now it's https://www.patreon.com/scumbags_comix so the old URLs no longer work! Featuring a snippet of a WIP!
The "light" half of Ham's picture! Go read his comic too, it's a fantastic work that balances worldbuilding with stunning and complex visuals and hype shonen-style fighting. It Is Very Good.
Me and Hambonus (who draws the absolutely FANTASTIC Amunito https://tapas.io/series/Amunito/info ) are doing an art trade and this is Ham's half and it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, and I can't stop looking at it, because it's so good. Please look at it too. Since it's double sided, I'll post the other side up in the next post!
Made a first post on the patreon page at https://www.patreon.com/edomies this one has character designs for the upcoming chapter!
I want to start using it more. Right now I'm thinking of full res pages and concept art like this, but there's a lot of interesting stuff that could be done with it.
Feel free to check it out if it's something that interests you!
Making comics is a labor of love, I'll keep drawing it for free forever, but if you'd like to support me while I do, this could be a good way to do so :)
A drawing of Acorn wielding the infamous sword/gun/calendar of saints displayed in the "golden lane" of prague castle (an oversized version of it, anyways) to tide you over until next update! It requires a lot of character and background design, but I think you'll like it!
Sorry for the long pause between updates. I went on a trip to prague. Here’s a drawing of kanak and acorn eating chimney cake (which i ate titanic amounts of)
