I used to sell my jewelry at markets and events, but the pandemic closed them down. No shows meant no money, so I couldn't make more jewelry. So, I worked on my story.
Then I saw an old photo while doomscrolling FB.
It was taken about 18 years before. The photo was of a college party I'd attended, and the person who posted it asked if anyone knew the "Girl in Black".
It was me! I remembered that party. I had a great time! I said as much, and the person's reply gave me chills.
"Oh thank God! Everyone else in that pic is dead!"
There were at least a dozen other people in the picture. Covid got them all.
All except me.
That same day I booked a checkup. I went to my doctor, and he was amazed. My years of metalwork had fixed my hands!
To celebrate, I bought Clip as an Xmas gift for me, and on Jan. 1st, 2021, I started drawing Plague Rat. I was very rusty art-wise, but I feel like my skills are almost back.
I'd always dreamed of making a comic. Thanks for helping it happen!
A lot's been going on! My 12 year old computer got a much-needed motherboard and processor upgrade! I've got the new proof copy of Issue 3, and I've begun my own Training Arc. Or rather, Re-Training Arc.
---
You see, I used to be an animator. I even went to school for it. But I worked myself so hard that I got carpal tunnel in both of my wrists just two years past college. It was so bad that my hands would lock up into claws!
The doctors said there wasn't much they could do, and that I'd never do art professionally again. I didn't know what to do. I'd dedicated my life to drawing, and suddenly I couldn't even hold a pencil.
Growing up, my grandpa taught me metalworking, so I started making jewelry. I could use pliers for short bursts, then saws and hammers... I made a jewelry business and that's what I did for years.
But I missed art. During the pandemic, I got the idea for the comic and it wouldn't leave my head...
But on a more serious note - I'm working hard to get back on my regular update schedule! I lost my buffer when I ran into trouble printing Chapter 2, and that, combined with the convention AND the holidays, have set me waaaay off track.
For now, my plan is to get back on my Wednesday & Saturday schedule, then build up my buffer.
Thank you all for hanging in there as I get caught up! ^_^ Your'e awesome!
Oh, and if you're wondering why this is in color - Patrons get color, early comics, and random extras, so... Maybe think about it? ^_~ It's only a ~doolllllaarrrrrr~
Oh, wow! Thank you so much! I just hope my earlier art skills don't turn people off from reading it. Right now I'm working on Issue 3 and the difference is pretty staggering.
