Hey, all! I'm alive. I'm just... surviving. I'm so tired.
If you follow on patreon* you might know some of this, but long story short, I got Covid again in October, and though the actual symptoms were bearable, it left me with some brain fog and exhaustion. My previous experience with Covid told me that this would last several weeks.
An allergy flare-up after that made me exhausted again/ more exhausted. And, well. There's a lot going on. I am only just now recovering to where I have enough energy to do more than my day job stuff. I've been slowly working through a novel I intend to release this spring, so when I had energy I wanted to focus there.
I have been doing sketches while I'm out with friends, so my art is staying sharp. I'm looking forward to getting back to comics though. I miss them!
So I'm doing OK, just, taking a break! Spidersilk is between chapters, so the timing is great. I'm looking to get back into things soon.
*You can follow for free on patreon. I post big news and updates for all members when I have it!
Anyway, here's a guy I doodled in my sketchbook a few days ago.
*Sends Alakotila hugs (if they like hugs), and positive vibes aplenty, wishes them a full recovery, thanks them for giving a sign of life and hopes that they will soon be merrily publishing stories again, proudly posting amazing art and sharing the lives of their loveable characters. And also of the less loveable characters. Just to be sure.*
just discovering this is a thing bc tapas doesn't tell me anything. glad you're recovering and its ridiculous its still happening like this five years in. hope it passes quickly. i know this was weeks ago. but also i love the new character 👀👀👀
I usually like to celebrate with extra updates, but instead I just admitted I needed time off. I pushed a lot of my project release dates back so I didn't have to rush them and stress myself out, and just stepped back where I could. I'm recuperating from a flurry of events, event planning, and sudden life things. I'm really looking forward to working on Spidersilk again, so I think that's a great sign, but I'm going to keep resting up for now. Please enjoy this cute Prentice and Sohrab art. So good to draw them again!
Thank you for celebrating with time off! Taking good care of yourself is the best present we could ask for. Proud of you and the characters for having come so far!
Sorry for the impromptu hiatus! I took March off of most projects. I need to catch up and rest properly. On top of that, this is an emotionally difficult month for me anyway, so I like to find ways to make it easy on myself. That used to be "work so much I don't have time to think" but lately it's shifted away from that.
I'm still working on things, just not my main projects and Patreon! It's kind of nice to have the time to put towards all that backburner work and just-for-fun stuff without any pressure or deadlines. I've been drawing a lot of fancy fantasy dudes like the image here.
Thanks for sticking around! I'm looking forward to getting back to Spidersilk in April! ^^
Thanks for taking good care of yourself! I hope the emotional impact becomes easier over time. That doesn't work for everything though. My go-to solution for all world problems is chocolate, but... yeah. Maybe I'd better just send you positive vibes, and if you like hugs, then also hugs.
I don't think I'll get to an update this weekend -- I had Covid for the first time for the second half of October, and my energy levels and sleep patterns are a bit messed up still. Fortunately not having any breathing issues, but I do get an annoying cough sometimes, which of course gives me a headache. All that to say, I'm trying to update as fast as I can and try to hit a mid-week page and a weekend page, but the schedule won't be consistent for now! (Buffer ran out.)
Been busy for a few local cons and shipping for Kickstarter orders -- yay, those Spidersilk books are getting shipped!! I'll be getting back to pages as usual later this week :)
Getting ready to come back in April for Spidersilk!!
In the meantime...I drew this. These guys are in another of my backburner stories. Once my other novel is beyond the beta reading and editing stage, I'll be able to work on this more! ^^
I'm still on break. I decided to take the entire month of March off as well. February was not done with me when I last posted, and I ended up with more bad news that means some pretty big changes are coming up. I want to work on comics, but since my energy is limited I need to focus it on my assistant and editing work (income)! I'm looking forward to more dudes lost in the woods and badly timed flirting when I come back in April!
I did draw this at some point, so please enjoy! (He's from a novel I'm working on.)
Thanks for sharing the fairy (?) dude in firefly starry skies, and for taking good care of yourself with all the bad news going on! I hope some good news is on the way for you.
There'll be a week or so without updates -- my cat is now sick, and we don't think she has many more days. I want to spend as much time with her as possible to make sure she is comfortable and not alone. This is coming right after another family emergency earlier this month, so I just need to take a little break!
