Dunno if anyone following is really all that interested years later lol but even though I had to quit work on _CRUSH_ and comics altogether because of financial struggles and time restrictions with them, I am still a very active creator in terms of art and music and stuff since it's easier to manage, so if you're interested feel free to check out any of that stuff from any of the accounts linked on my link tree here, and if you do follow any of them or like my stand-alone art, animations, music or other works, thank you very much in advance! <3 https://linktr.ee/jaeharuart
_CRUSH_ needs your help! If you're a fan and want to help, please consider joining the Patreon! https://patreon.com/JaeHaruka Every pledge helps keep this comic going!
I just finished setting up my Twitch page since I want to start streaming occasionally. I don't plan to be streaming any content for the comic _CRUSH_ or any BL since it's more to promote the pinup/less bl friendly half of my market that commissions and buys the pinup stuff from me (since it just does better than _CRUSH_ does, sadly : /). Still, if there's anyone who's interested in THAT kind of art and wants to see me painting sometimes, you're more than welcome to follow. No idea when I'll start streaming atm though. But the landing page is done at least. https://www.twitch.tv/jaeharu
I’m going to go on a bit of an art rant which is very uncommon for me but I see time and again, so many people, some artists themselves (of a lower level) giving people shit or ragging on other artists for having used photo references for a piece, or having done a photo study. And every time I see it it’s so gross and disheartening. I really don't understand all the art nazi's that do this. How do you think art was done originally? You look at things. And you draw them. Using references is what helps you learn. Being able to emulate life with photo study renditions is just as important as understanding the fundamentals enough to build something from just them? You need things to look at to study from and learn from. A photograph as the source of reference is no less than a still life. And not only does doing photo studies like these help you understand the form, the light, the shadow, the color relationships, that are an essential part of art, but it also helps you understand how to use the software to render the results you want in the process. The stigma and discredit around using references or doing photo studies, in general, is a really ridiculous concept to have if you ever want to improve your own art. These are important and vital steps to learning and understanding. Even professionals in the industry use reference time and again. The world is a complex and intricate place with countless relationships going on (in terms of light, color, form, et cetera). It's impossible to know everything about everything at any given time in terms of art and it shouldn't be expected of artists to. There's absolutely nothing wrong with doing photo studies or doing work based off of reference when you're learning. The only time it becomes wrong, is if you no longer learn from it. And the people that don’t realize this, and accept this, are never going to improve to a level where their “just tracing” comments will hold any weight. If they made the same attempt to learn and move
forward with their own art by doing studies, I’m sure they’d soon change their mind on this themselves as well. It’s still always very disheartening to see though. P.S. Sorry for the rant. I just see this a lot in one of the art groups I follow and I have feelings on it.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I also have strong feelings on trolls. Or people that will critic others art work without the construction behind it or any help on what they could be improving on or where to start. But that's a different rant all together and I'll spare you that one. Back when I was a wee lad of 14 or so I had a lot of these on my DA. Not a single one of them contributed to me becoming better at my art nor did they point out things I wasn't already aware of my with my art. In a perfect world people wouldn't be dicks to each other though I guess.
like most things (not just in art, but in general as well) have a "good" or "going to far"
=
If people use photo study or even tracing as a way to learn and and as such eventualy be abe to draw things themself that they weren`t able to do befor,... THAT`S GOOD
If they keep tracing other peoples art with just minor ajustments and call it their own original works,.. GOING TOO FAR (and thats putting it mildly)
=
Telling people that (and where) they have improved, and where they could use some more work,.. THAT`S GOOD
Slashing into people and telling their art is crap and they should feel bad,.. GOING TOO FAR (and again, thats putting it mildly)
=
I`m not an artist by any stretch of the imagination,..
so i often have a example of something i want to mimick on a seperate screen in the rare occation where i`m drawing something.
Random question and doubt anyone will know, but any of you have any idea what to do about a wild chicken? One showed up in my front yard ... No one knows anything about it or is looking for it. I contacted our vet to ask what to do about it so it can be collected and safe and stuff but won't hear back until the morning... also, I love animals so no jokes about killing or eating it, thanks. Just like... who to contact maybe or what to like... do with it...
When we called the Bird Sanctuary because they hadn't replied to the email, the old c*nt on the phone said she wouldn't take it, argued that it was a fucking rooster (it's been confirmed by the vet and people that own them that it's not) and then went on a fifteen minute rant on how people (I.E. WE) just buy them and then abandon them, so yeah, sour af about that. Anyway, that being the last sanctuary/no kill rescue lead, the vet replied and suggested a Facebook group to us with people who seemed as obsessed with their chickens as we are with our cats so we got to talking with a few from that, and a woman from there agreed to come and catch it and give it a home. She seemed really nice and caring for her own chickens, her coop looked really clean and she sounded like she knew what she was doing as far as catching it and she came by tonight to do that and it's been safely taken with her now so it won't have to survive another really cold unsafe night in our tree : ) and *I* can finally get a good nights sleep without stressing that a poor animal is possibly freezing to death right outside my house. Also got to see it down from the tree a bit this morning happily plucking away at the feed we had bought and laid out at the bottom of the tree before it went stealth mode back up our tree and it was really cute lol
Here's the speed paint vid for the Lan Zhan piece for anyone interested: https://youtu.be/187mr3rRihY didn't have it up 'till rn so didn't post it with it. Gonna go back in and link it. : x
YEEESSSS : D I LOOOOVE IIIIIT especially Lan Zhan and Wei's character dynamics with each other *_* they're frickin' great. Huge crush on Lan too. I watched some of the animated version but more of the live action and I fell in love with the live action (The Untamed) actor for Lan hardcore, he's super sexy. I haven't finished it all yet but I plan to when I get the down time : x I do not speak that language though and it's a bit difficult to keep up with the subtitles sometimes for it T_T
Oops. Sorry! I never saw this until now. I think I left off around ep 7. like, they were in the cave with the ghost lady and bunnies or something. I might've watched the ep after that but I can't remember. I'd have to check ^^;
I see this on exit surveys a lot now and I think it really needs to be understood that unlike other Pateron creators and accounts out there that bring in enough money and support to work on it and update in place of a job, mine does not. It needs to have more CONTINUED support for that to happen and be a thing that pays my bills and allows me to quit my real job to focus on it for that to happen. As it stands it updates once a month and that's realistically the best I can do and keep my real full time job and place. It won't get there if people don't realize it's not there yet and won't stick with it because of that or if they sign up expecting something that isn't realistically possible. As a creator it gets really frustrating seeing exit surveys that say I don't do enough or expect the impossible when I literally have struggled to get enough ongoing support for years and to work on the comic and work full-time at the same time. If the goal on Patreon is ever met, that's when I'll be able to be as active as creators that do and CAN do it as their job but only then.
oof, I know what you're talking about. The 'creator isn't active enough' survey eh? I hope people who leave due to this read this post and understand that a comic page doesn't just take 1 hour or w/e... and creators do have a life outside of drawing, especially like Jae states; creators who have a job.
It's so frustrating and hard!!! Like yeah, it usually takes like an entire days work to get something done art wise and yeah, not every creator magically starts out making enough to do it as a job or is lucky enough to live at home or just do art or something I have no idea what's being expected like bruh, I make like 80 bucks, I have to work full-time, I can do the comic on my days off and have no life outside of it and then I see "not active enough" and i'm over here like dying, like come on, I'm never gonna be pumping stuff out everyday unless I have enough people to pay for that what disconnect to reality do you have ...? Sorry for ranting, this doesn't have anything to do with you Luca -_- having to put up with me complaining -_- I'm just frustrated. It's fine if you sub and then leave too just seeing that always annoys me a bit as the reason >< like please keep your expectations in the realm of reality and be aware what a creator makes and what's realistically possible with that don't shift blame or dissatisfaction onto the creator because they have to have a job? Artists are frickin' people living in the real world too man.
nah we all have to rant sometimes, especially when it's justified. Some people just expect you to work 24/7 on your comics and it's just impossible to do (sometimes patrons leave my patreon for the same reason) Just keep your head high, stay strong <3
This is just a heads up for anyone who has their own stuff up on Webtoons but apparently nowadays if anything gets flagged they just remove it without bothering to review it first and never tell you. So yeah, keep an eye on your stuff I guess and try not to piss anyone off? * I was wrong. Webtoons has just become incredibly strict with their policy. Rip.
