Hi everyone! time for a message so long overdue it would be funny if i didn't feel so bad about it..haha.. I just want to take some time and explain why i stopped working on Executioners academy, where i am now, and what i'm trying to do to get back to creating comics. Get ready for the Nero Biography, sorry!
Some of you may know that i work as a game dev, which sound pretty great, but it's also really tough, with long working hours and unexpected overtime whenever your directors want it. Because of this i simply didn't have time to create comics anymore - i didn't write anything though, since i kept thinking "I have a lot of work now, but it's soon gonna die down a bit". Of course, that never happened.
After having worked in the AAA games industry for some years, my partner and i decided that we'd had enough - and had accumulated enough knowledge about the industry to start making our own thing. For the past year and a half, we've spend the free time we had - together with another good dev friend - working on our own game in the hopes of being able to start our own game company one day, build on values we believe in, both for the games and for the people.
If this becomes a reality, i can go back to making comics in my spare time. I love making games, but i also really really love making comics. It's something i've always done - it's very close to my heart, very *ME*.
We've just released the demo for the game, and if you are the gamer type, or honestly if you just want to support me - go download it. (it's free ofc). We just need data right now to make the game better, and numbers to show the big $$$ guys that makes them want to invest in us.
I realise this might sound a big jaded, haha. I'm sorry, we've worked very hard for this, but i don't even know how to start apologizing for disappearing for 2 years, and then showing up with this. I think about the comic all the time, still.
I'm out of words now. Love y'all <3
I'm glad to read that, despite the hardships, you seem excited for the future! I was always grateful for what we did get of Executor's Academy, disapparence or not. I don't think you need to worry about apologising too much cause I think at this point we are all aware to some extent how life can stupidly easily get in the way of the best laid plans. Overall I sincerely hope your game does well and you can continue doing projects you love! :D
I do all lineart by hand! Right now i do the thick lines with a fine brush pen, and thin lines with a Saji Nib pen. I color my comic in photoshop with my Cintiq - i actually prefer doing flat coloring with a normal wacom, i just don't have one at home :0
I've changed the way i draw my comics countless times though! There's no right equipment for everyone, but there's the right equipment for you. It's all about finding what tools you feel are the best and fastest way to achieve the style you want, and learn to master them!
Are you going to share all your research somewhere, or is it just a personal study you are conducting :D?
Well i'm trying to decide which I want to get for myself, so far I've used 2nd hand tablets and now I've got money to buy something new and want to get the right thing for me! I've gone around asking my favorite artists on tapastic what they use. Thank you for your reply! I really do love how you do executioner's academy! the people I show it to are really impressed! as for my choice I think I'll get a 13hd wacom cintiq, Ive heard a lot of good things about it. Keep up the awesome art!
I definitely think a cintiq is a good choice if you do lots of your lineart digitally anyway, and like to "paint" more on your tablet (i personally like doing cell shading on a normal tablet) - they do take a bit of time to get used to - still after 2 years, i draw alot better traditionally than on my cintiq ! I have a 22" cintiq, and even with a screen that big, i feel like i could use more space xD I think it's worth considering earning a bit more money for a bigger screen, if you plan on using it professionally at some point anyway. These things lasts forever - My old wacom tablet i use at work is 8 years old, and there's never been anything wrong with it - still working as well as the day i got it. I plan to use my cintiq for at least 10 years too, before replacing it, so i definitely think it's worth considering that too, when making a bigger investment!
But again, that's just my preference! For me, bigger is always better when it comes to tablets 8D Good luck!
and thank you, i will do my best C: !
hmm I think you're right maybe i should get the 22... its what I use at work too so i'm pretty familiar with it, plus I'm planning on making my own home studio to do freelance animation so it is worth the investment. Thank you for all your advice! :D
A bit of sad news! - I sadly won't be updating July!
I'm going on a week long classical drawing camp tomorrow, closely followed by 2 weeks of vacation in Germany. I had planned to work hard the last 3 days and have some pages scheduled for update - but, alas, i got very sick all of a sudden, and were completely unable to work... My partner luckily managed to drag me to a doctor today, and - turns out - my blood pressure have been extremely low! Now i'm on a high-sodium diet, so it should get better soon~
- If you still wanna chat and keep in touch though, feel free to join my discord: discord.gg/jxzMapu :D
God damn, Nero! Sick again, It's like all the hard work and time you put life just decides it doesn't want a break from you! But I'm glad to hear you're being taken care of. Your friend is really nice for being so caring. But Germany sounds fun for you! Hope you get to see nice places there! I always got discord on my mobiles if you wanna chat or I might send more fanarts.(*wink*)XD
Heyy everyone! Sorry for the long wait, the main works in my portfolio's finally done, now i just have to secure an internship at a company! It's a bit delayed, but the comic will definitely start again in May! Thank you for your patience!
- Untill then, enjoy this sculpt of Wulf i made~ ⋆
♥♥♥ Happy valentines! ♥♥♥
I can't wait 'till the day i can start working on the comic again, but for now, i made a somewhat quick picture to show you all that i still love you!
Yay new stuff!! I love the color pink in this and that design of the golden halo is magnificent! And of course I dig the bloody heart, hehe:) ----Gosh, my love for you is undying now ever since I discovered you and your comics. It feels so beautiful<3
Ahhh!! Waaa~ This is so wonderful! I love everything about it! You really nailed the symmetry, especially for the "halo", it looks so good! And his hands!! (very medieval, and very Mordrain, love it!) Traditional art like this is so pretty, but also very time consuming, you must've put down a lot of time on this! Thank you so muuch~ !!
Your welcome!~ You have no idea how much joy I get from your appreciation for people's fanart!! And thank you for the compliments to my piece. After seeing your illustrations, I made sure that every line counts, and even followed the gothic architecture form in stained glasses. Yes, we can all agree traditional art is a price of time and energy, especially in your conditions, but that's the most of the art I do. This one took about two days~ first, the planning, sketch and lineart; second, the coloring and final effects! Could've been easier with digital work, yes, but... well I'm not familiar with digital painting. But mainly, for you and your comic, all the time and sweat is worth it~!!!<3
