Hi everyone, quick update: chapter 13 of Treehouse is finally happening.
It has been sitting still for as long as it has in part due to my life situation changing drastically (graduation, job, kid, house, etc.), and because I hit a roadblock with the story that sucked away all my motivation every time I opened Manga Studio.
About a week ago, out of the blue, I somehow managed to fix my writer's block and this unearthed a veritable mountain of motivation for continuing Treehouse. The timing could not have been better either — I'm currently on vacation from my day job, so I'm spending all my time every day drawing, like I used to back in the day.
Here's a (blurred out) teaser preview of where ch. 13 is at so far: save for a couple of panels, everything is fully sketched, and about 2/3 of the lineart is also done. I'm not going to make promises about a release date, but I'm doing what I can to get as much done this week as possible.
I can't wait to share it with you all — and I hope you still want to read it, after all this time.
Here's a comparison of the Treehouse main nerds as they look in the current series banner, which I drew back in 2014, vs. how they'll look starting from chapter 14! Can't wait to get started!
So! I've been giving it a lot of though since my last post here, and I think I will go through with the change of art style for Treehouse, starting from chapter 14. I've been having so much fun thinking about and drawing these redesigns that I'm now certain it's the right decision :)
On that note, here is the main gang in the updated style!
If you follow me on any of my socials, you might already know how I'm doing these days, but I think I owe you all a little update here as well.
After a long period of having zero motivation to draw (for various life reasons), I'm finally in a good place, and I have recently rekindled my artistic spark, drawing every day again for the first time in years. I'm starting small with quick, daily drawings until I feel truly ready to take on the behemoth that is finishing chaper 13 of Treehouse, which is still only half done.
On that note, I would like to ask you all a question: how would you feel if I were to make some drastic changes to the style in which I draw Treehouse, starting from e.g. ch. 14? I've been experimenting stylistically recently, and yesterday I drew this style test featuring Amanda from TH, which I really liked. It's quite different from the current style, but it's also very fun to draw.
Glad to hear you are feeling better. And the art looks really cool! The black and linework are smooth! Would love to see how you draw my characters someday too! I say, GO FOR IT in this style. Sometimes that emotional drag pulls out something new to inspire you. DO your best.
I wish thee luck, Atok.
I could be wrong, but I think most of us cared for your story enough to not complain about a style change in such a time-skip, so you do what makes you comfortable, and feel free to take any time to adjust that is needed. We are a patient sort.
First of all: sorry for leaving you all in the dark for so long — I know many of you really want Treehouse to continue soon, and I haven't exactly been giving out a lot of information here.
So here's an update to shed some light on where I've been, and what you can expect:
I'm a dad now! My girlfriend gave birth to our daughter Nova 3½ months ago, and our lives are changed forever (for the better, of course!). This has of course left me with even less "free" time than ever before. As the months have passed, more and more things have become routine, though, and this month I've been able to find both time and energy to draw again.
Chapter 13 of Treehouse is coming along. I've been working as much as I can this week, and I'm continuing to do so. This time, it's a full chapter release instead of small batches of individual pages, since overall this is a better experience for everybody (myself included).
I won't lie to you. It'll be a while before it's done. But I'm working on it as often as possible. Thank you for sticking with me for all these years despite my pitiful update frequency ^^'
He seriously isn't dead though. You guys should check out his twitter. He is now planning on finishing chapters in one go instead of posting them piece by piece. That's why it's taking so long.
And if you check his previous post he has a lot going on so it is difficult for him to keep up with the comics.
To all the everyone constantly asking, please understand that he has a life and doesn't makes TreeHouse for a living, just give him a break and be patient people, or support him through Patreon so that it may help him have more spare time for drawing comics >_<
There has been A LOT going on in my life, and I haven't had the time nor the energy to keep up with this site, and I'm sorry for leaving you all guessing what happened. Here's a quick rundown of everything that's been occupying my mind and time recently:
1. I was offered a PhD position at my university! I applied for it a while ago and spent many anxious weeks waiting for a response, but in the end I got it :) I start in September
2. I moved in with my girlfriend! This of course means there has been a long period of time in which I've been packing/unpacking and settling in, and I don't even have internet on my desktop computer yet :/ (but I can draw on it just fine, don't worry)
3. We got cats! Two ragdoll kittens, to be precise. They're my beautiful angel sons, and they of course require my attention too :^)
4. The last semester was pretty heavy on the workload. Combined with everything else, I've been so damn tired all the time...
BUT! I'm alive, have a lot of vacation, and I'm overflowing with energy and ITCHING to draw right now! So I'm working hard on finishing up chapter 12 of Treehouse and getting on with the story! You've all been waiting for far too long, and I feel bad about not at least keeping you posted. Expect to be hearing from me again Soon™
Congratulations Janus! That is just great, and no worries although the wait has been quite long and the Treehouse was paused in such a crucial moment, we understand that you have a life and much to take care of, but we always appreciate the updates and you sending life signals >_<
