The sky rumbled as grey-blue clouds slowly wrapped themselves around the sun. It wasn't likely to rain for a few more hours, but everyone in Los Angeles was preparing for a storm, which was quite uncommon and very welcomed.
During this lull on a Sunday afternoon, a man in a 2012 KIA with a trunk full of groceries exited the 405, stopping at the light directly after the exit. A young girl, wearing an unzipped black puffer jacket over a grey t-shirt sat by the light on an old purple blanket. Her hair, just reaching past her shoulders, looked as if it hadn't been brushed in days. She held a cardboard sign reading "PLEASE GIVE FOOD, GOD BLESS YOU" in what looked like scrawled Sharpie.
The man sighed, then reached into his backseat and grabbed one of grocery bags, mostly containing chips and other un-perishables. He rolled down the window and offered the bag to the girl, who was more than ecstatic. With a smile, the man turned his car into the tunnel.
As soon as the man had left, her expression fell and she grabbed a small bag of chips from the groceries. A car went by, but she didn't bother to try and flag it down.
As she yawned and settled back onto her blanket, a scream echoed from the tunnel, quickly followed by the skid of tires against asphalt. She jolted upright, looking around.
The girl then stood, and glanced to the freeway exit and the streets- empty. With hesitation, she slowly walked to the mouth of the tunnel, and looked inside.
The man who had handed her the grocery bag was lying in a fast growing pool of blood, the shimmering blade of a knife protruding from his chest. His car, with the driver's side door open, was parked only a few feet from where he lay.
"Sir?"
