The figure approached down the golden hall, a mere shadow due to the light streaming through the windows. A glint in their hand told him what he already knew. They had a knife. And if the dust scattered around the underground was anything to go by, they knew how to use it.
He shrugged his shoulders. This was going to be interesting. They were strong, there was no doubt about that. But they would have to hit him to kill him, and he had no intention of letting that happen.
“Heya” He said grimly. “You’ve been busy, huh?”
The shadowy figure continued to approach at an even rate.
He sighed
‘Do you think even the worst person can change? That everyone can be a good person, if they just try?”
The figure stayed silent, drawing ever nearer.
“Well here’s a better question. “ He jerked his head up, revealing a single flashing blue eye. “Do you wanna have a bad time? Because if you take another step forward, you are really not going to like what happens next.”
The figure paused for a moment, before crouching down with their knife at the ready, as they said a single word:
“Sans…”
He grinned, his eye sockets narrowing.
“Welp, sorry old lady. This is why i never make promises.”
She Sans cracked his neck, his eye flashing with each crick.
“It’s a beautiful day outside, birds are singing, flowers are blooming.”
The figure dashed forward, revealing eyes red with death, knife gripped tight. Sans wirled out of the way, catching their hand as they passed.
“On days like these, kids like you…”
With this he pulled them closer, so they were staring directly into his electric blue eye.
“Should be burning in hell.”
Frisk, though Sans supposed calling her Chara might be more accurate at this point, jerked out of his grip. She raised her knife again, Determined to defeat him.
Without warning she dashed forward, slashing with the knife.
“Come on kid, you’ll have to try harder than that! Go ahead and hit me, if your able.” Sans baited.
Her eyes burned with anger as she pivoted to face him. He was standing calmly a few feet away, as though they were having a calm chat. Even as she moved to attack him again, he swept his arm across his body, glowing with a deep blue light. In response to his movement, glowing blue bones sprung out of the golden tiles, barring her way. As she crashed into them, more came out of the floor, impaling her in the air.
Sans stepped back, waiting for what he knew would happen. The humans soul floated gently above their body, so calmly opposed to the violent fight that had been taking place mere moments before.
The soul shattered, leaving no trace of it having been. The body dissolved, leaving only his bones floating in the air.
A glimmer at the end of the hall gathered his attention. A star of light formed, and a ripple passed through the hall, invisible to anyone not knowledgeable about movement through time. A shape began to form in the center of it all, running out of the blinding light.
Chara sprung out, ready to continue the fight. Sans shook his head. How many times did they have to go through this? It seemed like every week, every day, it was the same thing over again.
He stood at the ready as she approached. She was more cautious this time, taking smaller jabs at his defences. Each stab was met by a wall of bone, and each slash was dodged with the precision of someone who had done this hundreds of thousands of times before. Never did a strike land anywhere close to Sans, but neither could he land a single blow on her.
“This has gone on long enough!” Sans growled, sweeping both his arm upwards.
Behind him, a series of skull-like creatures appeared, hovering lightly in the air behind him. His eye began to glow brightly as he swept his arm down to point at Chara.
As one the creatures opened their mouths, issuing forth wide laser beams that burnt everything in their path.
Chara lept over and around them, dancing in and out of their reach like some deadly dance. One by one, the blasters stopped firing and faded away. As Chara landed on the ground in front of Sans, a single pulsing beam grazed her before winking out. She fell to the ground, before raising herself up on one knee.
Sans saw his only chance.
“Listen,” He said earnestly. “I know you didn’t answer me before, but… somewhere in there, i can feel it. There’s a glimmer of a good person inside you. The memory of someone who once wanted to do the right thing.”
Chara stayed crouched where she was, as tears began to seep into the corners of her eyes.
“Someone who, in another time, might have been… A friend?”
Tears were flowing freely now, splattering the tiled floor of the judgement hall.
“C’mon buddy. Do you remember me? Please, if your listening… Let’s forget this ok?”
Sans spread his arms, the blue in his eye dying down, just a little.
“Lay down your weapon and… well, my job will be a lot easier.”
Sans knew that at this point one of two things would happen. They had been through this too many times for him not to. Either she would attack him again, or she wouldn’t. Either way, in this state she wouldn't last in the battle against him. All he need to do was…
Clang!
The knife clattered to the floor. Sans could hear the sobbing now, echoing through the chamber. She stumbled forward into his arms, crying.
Sans knew what he had to do. It was his least favorite part of this charade. With a flick of his wrist behind her back he summoned more bones. Directing them like a conductor, he positioned them so that when he made them, they would drive through her back, and straight into her soul.
As much as he hated it, he was ready to do it. He had already done it many times, and was ready to again. He directed th6em to begin their sickening descent, toward the helpless human.
