“And then I was like boom!” I exclaimed with a grin as I set my phone on the table. I was sitting on the table with my three friends. We were at our favorite coffee place, sitting in our normal booth. We didn’t really care that much, but across the way the most popular girl in school. Her name is, Austin, she’s kinda mean to us, but she’s nice to other people. Probably because we’re nerds, or whatever. But, like, not that mean, just a little. Sort of like, she ignores us and trips me. But just me, not my other friends, which is fine with me. I’m just glad she doesn’t do that to my friends.
“Dude, did you see the new ---- thing that came out? It was so good!” Jessica, my friend asked.
“Yeah, yeah!” the other Jessica in our friend group agreed, we just call her Jess.
“Oh my god, it was amazing.
My phone vibrated on the table and I picked it up. It was a notification from instagram, it said, ‘Austin_ForFun%:) requested to friend you’.
I dropped my phone to the table, and my jaw fell, “What is it?” Winny asked.
“Hahaha-haa, no not at all. Anyways, yes that ------ thing was really interesting.” Is this a joke, maybe an accident? Should I just accept it? But what happens then? I thought worriedly.
“So, how’s it going with school?” Jess questioned, looking at me. But I just stared at my phone in astonishment.
Jessica suddenly snapped in my face, “Yo, where’d you go?” she asked.
“S-sorry,” I mumbled, “just a little distracted.” I peaked to her table and stared at her, her legs up on the booth seat. Her right leg was pulled up so her knee was bent and her other leg was hanging off the side. Her friends were babbling away about something on their phones, she was nodding along, but not really focusing. She suddenly had a small smile then seemed to growl slightly and I tore my eyes away. I stared at the table-top, my face flushing in surprise. Jessica was sitting next to me and she suddenly hit me over the back of my head, I looked up. My eyes flickered to Austin, she was glaring at Jessica for some reason.
“Dude, anybody but her. Anybody else, literally.” she grumbled, “She’s mean.”
“R-right, yeah and I wasn’t doing that. Don’t worry about it.” I chuckled lightly.
She slung her arm over my shoulders, “Good. As I was saying, I think we should get one of those pride flags for the upcoming pride parade. Cause the last one was fun, I loved it, but I think we should get one anyways.”
“I concur, I think it’s a great idea.” I beamed with a laugh.
“Yeah, can you look up a pic?” Winny suggested
“What?” I mumbled.
“My phone’s dead and you know the Jess's, are too lazy, so you do it.” he laughed.
“Ugh, fine.” I groaned. I pulled up Instagram and accidentally dropped my phone, fumbling with it to make sure not to drop it. I heard a click, I quickly looked to the phone and saw that I had accepted the friend request. “Oh shit.” I murmured.
“What’s wrong?” Jess inquired.
“Nothing, nothing, here.” I turned the phone towards her, images of pride flags showed on the screen.
“You know what? We should sew a trans, lesbian, pan, and bi flag, that way we include all our sexualitieys.” Winny suggested. Jess is trans(boy to girl), Jessica is bi, Winny’s pan, and I’m gay so that would work.
“Sounds like a plan.” I nodded and heard my phone ding. It said that I got a message so I opened it up and found that Austin sent me an instagram message. I looked up at her and she stared down at her phone, unwavering.
The message wrote, ‘Hey’.
“Y-you know what guys? I-I really should get home, it was n-nice hanging out though.” I grinned, tripping out of my seat and running out of the restaurant. Before I left, I managed to steal a quick look at Austin. She was staring at me and grinning slyly. I got on my bike and rushed home, my phone buzzing with questions from my friends.
The next day, I walked into school and my friends shuffled up to me. “Dude, why’d you leave yesterday?” Jessica asked.
“Uh, ya know, just had stuff to do I shrugged as we walked down the hall. I suddenly tripped forward and onto the ground. I was wearing a skirt that day so my knees scraped against the floor, making me wince in pain. I looked up but it wasn’t Austin, it was some boy I didn’t know.
“Are you okay?!” Winny exclaimed.
“Mhm, mhm.” I nodded, standing up, my knees hurt really bad but I pretended it didn’t. “I’m fine, let’s go, we’re late.” I smiled and walked forward. I looked to the side, I saw Austin leaning against the lockers with an upset look. I quickly went back to looking at the floor, figuring she probably didn’t want to see me or whatever.
During lunch, I was walking down the hall alone. Jess, Jessica, and Winny have different classes then me so we usually meet up at my locker. Anyway, as I strolled someone pulled me into an empty classroom. They locked the door and turned around, it was Austin. She pushed me onto a desk, my eyes went wide. “P-plea-” she cut me off.
She put a finger to my lips, “Sh.” she ordered, scaring me. She dropped to the ground, I gave her a confused look. She suddenly pulled out bandaids, they were decorated with princesses which made me stifle a laugh. She undid it and taped it to each of the scrapes on my knees. I shuddered just at her touch, which was so weird. I stared at her in surprise, she suddenly trailed her hands down to my ankles. She dragged them up my legs, pushing her hands up my thighs. She slid her hands into the rim of my underwear and started pulling it down. She froze and yanked off of me, she picked up her bag. She looked away, and I saw that her ears were red, it was kind of cute. She ruffled my hair nervously and walked out.
My breathing suddenly sped up, “What the fuck was that?” I whispered. “Oh my god, what is going on? Have I suddenly entered a parallel universe?!”
I quickly stood up and collected myself, running out the room. “Hey! There you are, I was wondering where you were.” Winny grinned, “What’s, uh, what’s going on there.” She pointed to my knees, “Oh, um, they hurt a little so I put them on there.” I shrugged.
“Okay, weirdo.” she laughed. “C’mon, I am so hungry!” She dragged me over to my locker, where Jess and Jessica stood.
“Hey, there you are. Let’s go have some food. There’s a new restaurant down the street if you want to check it out.” Jessica offered.
“I’m down.” I grinned.
“‘Kay, let’s go.” Jess nodded as we started walking along. We walked past Austin and she suddenly trailed a finger up the back of my arm. I shivered, kept going, and looked back at her. She waved her fingers lightly, smiling slightly. I ignored her and kept walking. “Okay so, check it out. My english class gave me an assignment, I’m supposed to write a whole essay in one night.”
“Hah! Your face!” Jess laughed.
I tried to focus but my mind kept thinking back to before. I had too many questions, like, why did she help me? She’s done it before, tripping me. She does that all the time, yet for some reason she freaked out when someone else did it. Although when she did it, I never got hurt. No scrapes, not even a few bruises, it was weird, somehow, I always landed on her bag.
Here’s what usually happened, my friends and I would walk down the hall. Then I would trip and fall right onto her bag, which always had something soft in it. Like a jacket or whatever. Then I would get up and give her bag to her then walk away.
But this time, I fell right onto the ground and my knees got hurt. Also, more questions, why did she touch my thighs? I mean she was dangerously close to crotch, dangerously close. And why did she touch my hair? I really thought she didn’t like me, I mean seriously. Very confusing.
