I found it by pure coincidence. It was one of those nights where I couldn’t sleep. I walked the city like I usually did, to get my mind at ease. I wasn’t entirely sure what my destination was at the time, or if there ever was one, to begin with, but I ended up walking to a side of the city I wasn’t that familiar with. I knew it existed, I passed by it many times as I went to and from work. I had just never taken the time to explore it. The best way to describe it would be…depressing. Everything was just gray. Old and gray. The street lights flickered randomly, few cars passed by here and there. It was such a cliche, really. Most of the stores were closed, rundown, vacant. And barely a soul to be seen. You would think twice about walking alone at night in a place like this, but I didn’t feel scared or in danger whatsoever. I felt…calm? At ease? Maybe it was just the inner moody me that made me feel this way. In the distance, I saw the faint glow of a coffee shop. You could smell it from blocks away, tucked away in the corner of some old apartments.
