Because that's what this is.
It's a queer story (in all senses of the word) with queer characters (in all senses of the word).
This story is not:
1) Your dark and brooding The Boys style modern superhero story (most of the time).
AKA: I'm not that cool.
This story is:
1) Adam West Batman in a cheap wig (most of the time).
AKA: I like puns.
Do with that information what you will.
It will also not follow a straight-up Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, novel format, because it is basically 9 parts novel, 1 part comic.
But it is still a novel. There are words. 100,000+ of them.
Keep that in mind here.
But with that, there are going to be images and comic panels throughout the story, which means each chapter is divided up by the 5 image limit.
Think of it as comic book pages, rather than novel chapters (most of the time).
The art style will start to evolve over the course of the story, from old old old skool, to more modern as the story progresses.
Pay attention. It might give clues into the story telling. ;D
(Also.. hello, hi. I'm not an artist, just an author with a dream and a baseline knowledge of adobe illustrator. Give me a break. Not every panel is going to be a Da Vinci. I tried my best...)
This story has an even bigger story behind it, starting all the way back in 2014 when I pitched it to my screenwriting teacher as a mini-series, saving me from otherwise failing the class... to 2017 where I got to pitch it as a movie script to Columbia Pictures at comic con (I'm not salty they never called me back. Nope. Not one bit...) all the way to 2020 where I queried it as a test subject to one agent... got that agent... and then it was put on submission to Big 5 publishers (who subsequently laughed in my face and rejected me all the way to timbuktu and back.)
And has a lot of history, so I'm not updating it much.
It's really a technology timecapsule of a different era before everything was streaming services, social media, and tiktok. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a wacky tale that could probably be considered a period piece, even though it's science fiction/fantasy and only 10 years old. I did try to take out the many instances of unncessary hashtags, so I didn't seem as uncool and not-hip-with-the-times as I truly am.
(I am also old)
Speaking of which: Superheroes, science fiction or fantasy? Please tell me your opinion because I've heard them all and I have no idea anymore.
Arin Adams didn't mean to acquire her powers while microwaving that burrito, and yet she did. When she accidently stops a bad guy from nefarious deeds, the world's top superheroes take notice and invite her to join others in training to be a real superhero. The only problem is that Arin's power completely sucks.
With a new secret identity, and a crush on her superhero hating boss, Arin must navigate the world of professional superheroism while trying not to die in the process.
But is it even worth it?
I mean, seriously, no one likes superheroes anymore, anyway.
