I was back here in the maze again.
There were many great stories of people who came back to the maze. Extraordinary people who came here to reach new horizons, ordinary people who came here to become extraordinary.
Which group did I belong to?
The group of extraordinary people who excelled at their field, got bored and came back to challenge a new field.
Or so I would tell you.
I’m a gifted person, I’ve always done well in my field. Although I have nothing to show for it. Neither do any of my peers in my field know of me. But you all know, the burden of being a main character is that you have to deal with the world’s ignorance until the right time comes and they all finally recognize you.
Except they probably won’t cause I’m really not that special. I’ve never really excelled at any of the tasks in the tower. My name is not in any of the rankings, not even the smaller ones. I have never gotten any of the better skills attainable from the maze. But I kept telling myself that if I kept going, I too, will have my main character moment when I will get some super rare ability that no one ever has gotten. The later it got, the more I told myself that it’s not because it won’t happen, it’s because the ability is that much rarer.
You could say I’m slightly delusional.
Just a tad bit.
And that I have an unnaturally big ego, with somewhat of a main character complex.
You’d be wrong of course.
Because clearly there’s a reason you’re allowed to go back to the maze as many times as you want. Maybe if you go through the maze a 100 times you unlock extra rare abilities.
Like Rewind.
Luke told us that he got rewind on his first time at the maze but really, with an ability like rewind, who knows how many times he’s been through the maze? He’s the only one who retains memory every time he rewinds. For all we know, he went to the maze 50 times, got rewind, rewinded time and claimed that he got it on the first try.
Clearly that’s the more believable case.
While munching on my popcorn and watching yet another documentary about Luke Castro, I yawned.
I just need to go back to the maze.
Except for the fact that I need money, and maze runs don’t make you any money. They also take about 4 years on average to complete. I do have an ability that I came out with at the end of my mage run, x ray vision.
Which is mostly useless.
Now don’t get me wrong. X ray vision has value, only when paired with other healing abilities, since it allows you to assess the damage. And it’s extremely common among medics. So without otherwise medic specialist abilities, there’s no use of having x-ray vision. It’s not even useful for peeping cause all you see are skeletons.
So maybe if I went back to the maze, even if I don’t come out with some extra rare ability, as long as it’s something more useful than this one, I’ll still take it.
I’m just really desperate to find an employable ability right now.
That’s about all the reason that brought me back to the tower.
