"We can create harmony between insect demons and humans."
That phrase was what started the age of acceptance in the village of Droptupp. For years humans have been working with the insect demons, bringing them closer to an understanding. They wanted society to be so accepting that the two races were indistinguishable in the eyes of prejudice, and abundant enough to be a common sight. The humans made great strides in integrating the insect demons to understand a variety of their customs. The two races lived in harmony for a long time, until the sport of demon combat came around.
Demonic combat was a hobby where insect demons were set up in combat against each other. They started out being simple events that ended with little bloodshed and were only dictated a win by pin to the ground. They even televised these events. However, the sport began to evolve and that's where the problems began. The insect demons began to use various methods of destroying and disabling each other. As a result, they began to show distaste for being gladiators and spectacles and some of them even rebelled. The humans killed a few uprising rebels but more took their place.
A famous scientist made the statement that the demons would overtake humans at one point within the next 100 years and the rate at which they evolved was bigger, stronger and smarter than humans. They seemed to have the ability to evolve at a never-ending rate, an evolution in which humans couldn't compete. Some scientists claimed with the friendship of these creatures humanity was bringing about its extinction.
That soon became reality and the amount of rebellious insect demons outnumbered the rate in which they were being killed, disabled or outright destroyed. The insects waged war on humanity. It was long and brutal but the humans remained victorious.
They cast the insects into a deep chasm of darkness, never to be seen again. They sent many out to gather the insect demon's corpses and dispose of them, along with the wreckage of war.
But one day, life changed for one of the humans involved on the disposal team.
A woman with long, white, wavy hair stood on the edge of the chasm. Deep purple eyes gazed into the seemingly infinite darkness as a hot, summer wind blew through the devastated area. The smell of dirt, debris, and rot filled the air. Her pupil glanced at the heavy decapitated insect demon head she held.
She swung her arm back to pitch the head into the depths, but something happened and she felt herself being propelled forward. Her form lit up in fright and her eyes widened as her body descended and she was swallowed up by the land.
Silent, she disappeared into the depths of the darkness.
