You would think that living in a big, luxurious city is great, and you would be right ! It’s great if you have enough money to pay the rent every month, and still have money at the end to eat like an average person.
It's not the case of the main characters of this absurd story. Right now they live like two rats trying to survive every day, stealing foods when they don't have any, and escaping their landlord by jumping out the window of their tiny flat each time he tries to make them pay the rent. This lifestyle actually worked for a while, but like anything, it all comes to an end. You can't escape the landlord for all eternity even if you really tried. And when a half awake Nollie made the mistake to open the door, they knew. They knew that it was the end of staying for free at the flat, free roof above their heads, because they didn't have a single dollar even if they checked in all their belongings. Didn't even have time to try talking back to the men at the door that Nollie and Evan were grabbed by their collars and thrown out of the small space they considered home for a whole year now.
So the story begins here, on the sidewalk right in front of the "Rat Kingdom" like they loved to call it, with nothing but their last drop of dignity, some thief skills and a half eaten burrito.
