My name is Lucas. The world's most average person, with the most average life. I'm an otaku on my way back home to read the latest volume of my favorite manga that I got from the store
When is the green light gonna appear? It feels like I've been standing here for an hour.
A boy passes by and starts crossing the road not paying attention to the truck coming down the road.
(Hmm. That truck is coming down really fast. That boy is going to get hit by it since he's not paying attention. It really feels like time slows down at these moments. I could shout so the kid can watch out for the truck but he has his headphones on. Or I could risk my life and push him out of the way and get hit instead. What am I thinking? This isn't an anime and even if it was, I'd be the side character. Poor kid's gonna die for his own foolish mistakes.)
...
Lucas jumped and pushed the boy out of the way and the truck hit him, sending him flying across the street.
(Damn, I couldn't just let the kid die like that. It hurts like all my bones have been rearranged. Why did I have to play hero? Now I'll never know how the manga ends. I'm just gonna close my eyes.)
The voices outside fade as death draws near.
"Someone call an ambulance!"
"Is he alright?"
...
"Where am I? Is this what death feels like? It's too bright.", he said, covering his eyes.
"Hello mortal.", a voice greeted.
"Who are you?", he asked, looking at the cloaked figure that had many stars on tendrils that he guessed were hands.
"My name is Aelius and I'm a cosmic author.", the figure replied, approaching him.
"Ok... and?", he asked, now very confused. "Wait what's that voice that's narrating everything?"
"I saw your good deed before you died and I must say I'm truly impressed that, despite your young age, you sacrificed your life to save someone else. The voice is crucial for the story", it answered, now closely observing him.
"Well that voice is kind of annoying and I regret saving that kid because I'll never finish my favorite manga." he sighed. "What do you want with me? Aren't I supposed to be dead?"
"Well you are... surprisingly you're very calm with it.", it said, in awe of the mere human who was not scared of death.
"This is usually what happens in isekai, so I'm not shocked.", he replied.
"Anyway, let us get straight to the point. I'm giving you a second chance at life and rebirthing you into another world. This time with the role of a main character with the purpose of saving the world from the dark lord. I'll also give you a status system where you can see your skills, upgrade them, see quests and even chat with me!", he said delightfully.
"Isekai and a leveling system? Those genres seem overused. Also why are you doing this? Also wait a minute I didn't ask for this.", he questioned the being.
"As I mentioned before I'm a cosmic author. My purpose is to create destinies and fates together for various worlds. Each timeline and life are written by me and other authors.", the author explained.
"Wow, seems really important.", he said sarcastically.
"Thank you. Now, no time for chit chat. I will transport you to the new world. No worries you'll be 16 at the time like you are now.", the author thanked him in delight.
"But I never agreed to this-"
Before he can finish, he is transported to the new world. He wakes in a grassy field, looking at the teal, morning sky.
"Huh? WHERE AM I!?"
A digital window appears in front of him.
[Notice: Welcome to Mythoria. A world filled with magic, monsters and heroes. Your new name is Kyros Brightblade.]
"I never asked for any of this. I just wanted to read manga!"
End of Chapter 1.
