“Doc! I need you give something! Anything! My friends are in
danger!” I yelled at my alien friend over the com link.
“You know I can’t do that! It’s against Galactic Law!
Letting you have that communicator was pushing things as it was!”
the doc replied.
“My friends have been captured by
some very hostile members of another race! Even I barely
escaped! Don’t you think your oh-so precious laws have already been
smashed and thrown out the window by now!?” I told him. I heard him
sigh on the other end before answering.
“Fine. I’ll
send you one thing and one thing only. I’ll leave it up to you to
decide what you need for your rescue mission.” The alien scientist
told me.
“Only one thing?” I asked, concern
tainting my voice.
“Yes. Anything more would be too
much. As I said, just giving you the comlink was already bending them
but this is an emergency.” He explained “I suggest you choose
carefully before deciding. There will be no changing it once I have
sent it to you.”
“I see.” I said before pausing
to think.
I took his words seriously and thought
carefully about what I would need. My mind went wild with the
possibilities but they generally into three or four categories. The
first was some kind of shield or armor. I could use it to defend
myself and possibly my friends, once I got to them. However, it might
not be enough to get me pass whatever defenses the aliens that were
holding them captive had. The same went for any kind of weapon that I
could bring with me and would only be useful so long as I didn’t
get killed. There was also a good chance that my friends were already
hurt and would need medical attention but anything that could help
them wouldn’t really be any help for getting me to them. At least,
I didn’t think so. I was resourceful and creative but I doubted I
was good enough to MacGyver myself pass a bunch of aliens and their
tech on wits alone. A robot would have been useful as well but they
would still be limited to what they had been made for.
