I think seeing it like that, like it was "his time", is really wise. It means you understand death and you accept it when other people live their entire lives with guilt or regret when someone really close passes away. But thinking about simply as "it was his time" means you are in peace with him and the memories of him. You let him rest in peace, properly said.
