Walking into a big office, a young curly brunette haired woman entered to meet two men. Her palms were sweating while she was walking, trying to keep her arms from rocking back and forward. The young woman was nervous since she was meeting Farris Barton and her father, Chris Castillo. It was not too often that they invited her to a meeting. After the two welcomed her, addressing her by her name, Mercedes, they directed her to a chair between them. Sitting down in a chair near her father and Farris, the woman sat there in silence, waiting for them to speak to her. Farris leaned over to her side of the desk, putting on his charismatic smile, which made her blush like an apple.
This leader of the group always knew how to make his followers feel welcomed. Mercedes thought Farris’s wife, Rose, must be the luckiest woman in the world to marry this man.
“I see you have been doing well on your missions, Mercedes. Have you done your part in drugging the politicians in Underwood?”
Mercedes shakes her head and nodded to his question. “Yes, I drugged the coffee of the Mayor of Underwood and the head of the Police Department. We shouldn’t have any problems with entering the town anymore.”
Mercedes remembered her mission well: Use the Devil’s Enigma potion on higher rank leaders in Underwood. Let the higher ups control them to do whatever the Rise of Light wanted. All it took was Mercedes to change her appearance to the point those Outsider bastards would not know the difference between a real secretary and a fake one. Doing her mission well was essential to her, since she needed the praise from him: her father.
“Oh, my dear girl…” Chris ruffled Mercedes’s hair, smiling at her in proudly.
Yes, she always wanted his approval. Now, all she needed was to be in her dear leader’s good graces.
“Good, Mercedes, what would I ever do without you?” Farris got up from his desk, then walked over to the big plexiglass windows. “But praising you isn’t just what you are here for. I am giving you another mission.”
Another recruitment mission? That is all she has literally been doing throughout the year. Constantly recruiting more members of the Rise of Light, while doing tougher site missions such as; drugging important influential Outsider figures. Mercedes never failed a single mission, and that was her track record.
Farris turned back, looking into her intense eyes, then said, “You remember Darren Cross, Ji-a Delisle, and Leticia Hernandez, don’t you, Mercedes?”
Mercedes nodded her head and answered, “Yes, you mean the traitors? The ones we used to make an example of those, who don’t appreciate the gifts of our group, right? What about them, sir?”
“I want you to find them. I don’t care about Darren Cross joining us, but J-ia and Leticia are extremely important to me. We cannot allow those girls to run around with undeveloped Bio-Kinetic powers, especially the type they have.” Her eyes watched as Farris went back to sit back at his desk.
“Yes, we need more members to our Moonlight Scarlet Riders unit. It is getting scarce to find Empathy Manipulation Bio-Kinetic people. Coralie Blanchet and the remaining current members can only do so much. Without more junior members, we won’t be achieving our goals sooner.” Chris explained.
Mercedes remembered the group, the Moonlight Scarlet Riders. The Rise of Light has many units, and each has a purpose: Hacking computers and databases to selling promotional materials, and spreading the good word of a “supernatural utopia" to hopeful perspective new members. The Moonlight Scarlet Riders were important people and higher rank level members, almost to the level of his wife, Rose Petalar. The members of these groups have the power to do more than just the typical Bio-Kinetic powers. They can manipulate the emotions of other people, which can be a handful for other Supernatural races and Outsiders authorities to deal with.
The Rise of Light deemed the group as the special members. The Moonlight Scarlet Riders could do far more damage than the normal Bio-Kinetic members. Drugging these influential Outsiders can only do so much when an Empathy Bio-Kinetic gets the job done quicker and little mess than magical drug would.
“If finding those three are what you need, sir, then I will accept your mission without hesitation,” Mercedes bowed her head in pride.
She could not decline this offer, since it would help her reach higher heights in the group organization.
“Wonderful, Merci. You never disappoint me,” her father smiled at her.
Looking up at her father, she wanted to hug him because all she could ever want was his respect. Farris dismissed Mercedes from the room. It was time for her mission to start! She opened the doors and went into the hallway to see a curly black-haired woman heading into the room. The two exchanged glances with each other, standing in place as the dark atmosphere grew around them.
The older woman huffed, “So what does Master Farris want with you?”
“Well, the Master has an important mission for me. I am in charge of finding your niece and Corline’s granddaughter, as well Mark’s little brother, dear Zarina or should I say, Benita.” Mercedes answered to the woman.
Zarina was her alias whenever they needed to go out and recruit more people. Same with some of the older members like; Georgia, who needed to cover their real names, because of the authorities having criminal records on them. Mercedes never needed to use her fake name unless she was on a covert mission. Before passing the older woman, Benita grabbed her shoulder, but Mercedes slapped the older woman’s hand away. The young woman glared at Benita, seeing that the coldness from the older woman’s face did not face away.
Benita rolled her eyes and said, “You really think that the master would want a half-brat like you working on a very important mission?! How truly naïve of a child you are…”
“Well, this half-brat is going to pick up where you failed, step-mother dearest. Anyway, have fun talking with the Master about your latest failures…” Mercedes just walked away from Benita, leaving her to do her business with Master Farris Barton.
That damn stepmother from hell, always putting her down because she was her father’s child from another woman. An Outsider woman, that is. However, Benita’s or anyone else's opinions do not matter to her in this damn complex. Mercedes cared about her father and The Master’s opinions more.
Pulling out an old picture out of her pocket, she smiled at it as it showed her and another boy with messy, black hair together. She kissed the picture, then said, “We’re almost there, Daniel. Those Outsider bastards will get what’s coming to them after what they did to you.”
With that, Mercedes’s mission had begun.
