Adventurer, the dream job where you can quickly earn a lot of money in a short amount of time. Healers can also get a good income out of curing numerous injured adventurers and villagers. Yet that doesn't compare to how much one adventurer can acquire in only one mission.
They just forgot to mention that this rule just applies for veterans with absurd items or powers. Newbies don't get anything past 100 makis, that being due their missions being stupid things that anybody could do. Like fishing or washing the dishes for a granny.
"We'll still have to choose whether to eat or pay the rent." The blue haired girl affirmed despondent.
"Kill a dragon, reward 10.000.000 makis! Now that's a mission!" The blonde boy said cheerfully.
"Of course, let's overlook the fact it is not suited for beginners like us because it's highly profitable." She squinted her yellow eyes.
"That's the spirit!" He completely ignored her ironic remark, already checking the dragon's location on the request.
Despite both barely defeating the weak monsters, Kalil wanted to go after the dragon. Nasira was a healer, not an extraordinary one but she was a big help in these kinds of situations, where they were on their own.
Sincerely, she didn't like taking dangerous missions, even though she would always tag along to make sure he would come back alive at least.
'I can't live without you' is the kind of thing she would say to the one person she sees when she looks in the mirror. For the record, herself. Though she couldn't just let her friend go alone to the wolf's den, he lives without a care in the world and that's very concerning.
What she doesn't know is Kalil isn't actually from this world, he was reincarnated here. He thought he is an op Isekai mc and plans to use the power of friendship as much as he can to build a harem for himself. After all, It's not everyday you can become a handsome blue eyed blonde.
Whenever he brought it up, she assumed he wasn't okay in the head, maybe becoming an orphan at an early age messed him up. He wasn't a bad guy, just a little weird.
...
"I guess I'm destined to die a virgin in every life I have..." Tears flooded the ground as he awaited trembling to hopefully get reincarnated again or this time face death for real.
"Don't just stay still, move!" She ordered dragging him out of the dragon's aim.
The fire burned where they just fled from, ashes were all left from the once green vegetation. The creature searched for them, who were hidden in its cave. Not very smart choice, since eventually it would return there.
"Nana, you saved me!" He hugged her as if he was holding onto dear life, sobbing like a maniac.
"You're suffocating me." She barely managed to talk.
"Sorry…!" He loosened his grip and she could breath with ease, save about the monstrous white dragon chasing them.
Suddenly, it noticed them. Well, they weren't exactly being silent. It opened it's large mouth, once again revealing it's sharp fangs, plus the red fire forming atop its grey tongue.
They had nowhere to run, the beast was blocking their only way out. If they went even further inside the cave, it would simply follow them. Then, when they were about to lose hope… a mysterious man appeared, lunging his magical spheres at the monster. His mint-like eyes made clear he wasn't human.
"Haha, Take this dragon, the power of friendship!" He was commemorating a certain victory.
"We aren't friends. I just came to see who was crazy enough to anger a dragon." The stranger explained after slaying the beast.
"Let's see if you'll say that when you hear my proposal." He kept tapping the man's shoulder "Would you be interested in joining Nasira's harem, vampire guy?"
"My name is Yamir and the answer is no." The silver haired man yanked his hand, immediately getting at a safe distance from them, ideally at the other side of the continent.
"Y'know, you could ask him to join our team in a normal way… Why are harems the first thing you ever think of?" She asked embarrassed.
"I hate love triangles, Nana. It's loathsome seeing the author obviously giving us false hopes and then finishing the series with a terrible ending!" He crossed his arms, disgusted.
"That... wasn't what I asked." She was almost rendered speechless at his line of thinking. They are childhood friends, somehow she didn't totally get used to him being himself. If that was ever humanly possible, that is.
Kalil took one of the dragon's fangs as a proof of technically having killed it and just to be safe, a few scales. Whatever really happened, no one would find out unless they let it slip. Of course the guild master wouldn't be convinced they did it, but alas he would be forced to pay up the reward.
But for the sake of sleeping with their bellies full under a roof, they wouldn't spill the beans. Fortunately, it was unlikely that their savior would be able to unmask them from so far away.
And like that, the newbies made their way back home. Knowing that all the tiredness they felt wouldn't last longer than a day or two.
This oneshot tells the story of two friends who just became adventurers going on a life risking quest all in order to pay their rent. Not everything revolves around the world ending, not when one of them was reincarnated in this world and is constantly mistaken as a crazy dude.
