“Ugh!” Caroline exclaimed for the hundredth time as she carefully interwove her hands on the head of the person that sat in front of her. “I don’t want one and I don’t think I’ll ever need one”.
“sheesh don’t be so sour” Miss Griffin said twirling on the chair. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a girl who doesn’t desire a boyfriend”. She stated again making Caroline roll her eyes
“I told you a thousand times already”. Caroline was just about the same as any other person in her final year of high school, got the world best mom and the world best friend. What else could she ask for?
“Caro, could you please hurry up and get that done.” That was Caroline’s mom, Mrs. Owen. She owned a hair dressing salon and Miss Griffin was one of their regulars.
“I would have if Miss Griffin here wouldn’t stop moving around and asking unnecessary questions” Caroline replied to her mother trying to get Miss Griffin stable on the chair.
“What?..... unnecessary?” Miss Griffin exaggeratedly put her hands over her mouth expressing shock. Although she acted that way out of sarcasm, she still couldn’t understand why a girl of 18 haven’t dated and is not in the least interested in dating.
“Miss Griffin dear, we’re about to close the shop and Caro has school tomorrow. I don’t want her staying up late” Mrs. Owen said to Miss Griffin.
“Mom you worry too much, I’m fine. Besides I’m the only one that is free enough to help” Caroline coaxed her mother. She had always wanted to help out in the shop but she wasn’t always allowed to.
“But still you have to sleep early”. Mrs. Owen continued, she had only two kids and after her husband had died she was became extremely protective of them.
“Ok I’m done. Miss Griffin you may see my mom now, I have to go before my mom starts talking again”. Caroline said and starting packing up her bag and glanced at her phone that showed 6:05pm.
“Oh that’s alright. Wow my gosh! You’re really good at this, I’ve been transformed” Miss Griffin smiled and praised Caroline who just shrugged with a wide grin, kissed her mom goodbye and left.

‘It’s just six thirty I wonder why she wanted me away’. Caroline thought on her way home. She kicked a rock as she walked slowly when she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. “What now?” she said putting her hand in her pocket and brought out her phone but was surprised to see a message from her best friend Max.
M: Hey what’s up with you?
C: I’m alright, I just got home
M: Oh is that so, can I come over?
Caroline sighed looking away from her phone and knocked on the door. She looked down again at the screen and replied.
C: I don’t think so, mom wants me up early and she’ll be pissed if I’m not asleep by the time she’s back
A few second later the door was opened by her older brother Ethan. “Yo, why are you standing there, come in” he said leaving the door to Caroline
“Hey” she said closing the door and was already heading straight to her room when she heard her brother speak.
“Mom said she’s taking you out tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I have to see Fiona again”. Caroline replied grudgingly dragging herself upstairs to her bedroom, she closed the door and fell on her bed. Not long after she picked up her phone that was beside her with a message that just came in.
M: LOL that’s totally exaggerated. Anyways guess what?
C: what is it, I’m too tired
M: Ugh I just said guess. Never mind Chris asked me out on a date
Caroline blinked for a few times, she couldn’t believe her eyes and immediately pushed the video call button that was immediately answered by Max. “what do you mean Chris asked you out?”
“That’s what it means duh” Max rolled his eyes but broke into a giddy giggle. “I’m so happy” he added still smiling
“You should be, you’ve been crushing on him like forever” Caroline said laughing at the sappy expressions that Max made.
They talked for a while with Max narrating his entire experience that day. He had intended having a sleepover so he could tell her but he no choice so he told her over the phone instead. Just then Ethan called from the kitchen.
“I gotta go” Caroline said getting up. “you better tell me the rest of it at school tomorrow “
“You bet” Max replied with the widest smile she had ever seen him.
Caroline quickly changed and went downstairs. “Is mom back yet?” she asked when she got to Ethan.
“No, come eat” Ethan said dropping a dish on the table. Ethan was two years older than Caroline and he attends a nearby college so he’s able to go home every now and then to check on his mom and sister.
After a long day,
Caroline went back to her room and laid on her bed pondering on the day’s
events. “Shit the whole day just went wrong and I have to go see that damn
psychologist tomorrow. Oww!” Caroline’s attempt to roll on her bed was
interrupted by a pen placed there by her in the morning. “At least Max got
asked out by Chris, that’s a good thing"
