17-year-old Sean Kers was sitting in his room playing on his phone with a bored expression. "Sean sweetie come here!" Sean's mother calls from the kitchen. Sean yawns and runs his hand through his glossy black hair as he gets up and walks to the kitchen. "Yeah, mom?" Sean asks. "We need to go to the hospital! Ace was just shot in a hit and run!" Sean's mother says sounding scared. "What! Let's go!" Sean says as he pulls his coat on and fumbles with the door. "Alright, I'm coming." Sean's mother says as she pulls her coat on as well.
At the hospital...
"Ace? Are you alright?" Sean asks as he looks at Ace, a boy with dyed red hair and blue eyes, who was lying on the bed. "I-I'm feeling a bit better..." Ace says in a weak voice. "Good. Do you want me to stay with you?" Sean asks his green eyes glistening with tears. "No. Just seeing you has made this boring place more bearable." Ace says trying to make Sean laugh. "Thanks, Ace. Get better soon." Sean says before he hugs Ace. Ace nods before he closes his eyes. Sean leaves closing the door behind him gently. "Is he doing okay?" Sean's mother asks. "He says he's fine but I can tell he's not," Sean says. "Oh dear. I'm going to go see him you can take the car back." Sean's mother says as she hands him the keys. "Thanks, mom. Love you." Sean says as he takes the keys from her and hugs her. "Love you too baby." Sean's mother says before she goes into Ace's room. Sean walks outside and spots a man with blue and black dyed hair and a brace on his right arm leaning on a wall and smoking. "That's a weird place to stand..." Sean thinks as he walks to his mother's car. As Sean glances over his shoulder to look at the man one last time he sees the man's skin change to black for a split second before changing back as he starts talking to someone. "No... that's not... it's just a trick of the light. Nothing to be worried about." Sean thinks but deep inside he felt nothing but an irrational sense of fear and panic.
Back home...
"I don't know why I made a fuss over that guy he was probably just waiting for a friend," Sean mutters as he cleans the kitchen. A knock on the door makes Sean jump before he looks through the peephole and sees a finely dressed man with brown slicked back hair and grey eyes looking rather worried. Sean opens the door and lets him in. "Hey, Cooper," Sean says as he closes and locks the door behind him. "Hey, shorty," Cooper says as he ruffles Sean's hair affectionately. "Stop!" Sean says as he pushes Cooper's hand away. "Not until that stops being fun." Cooper laughs as he watches Sean smooth his hair out. "Do you want something to drink?" Sean asks. "Well... I see a pot of coffee so..." Cooper says trying to keep the mood light even though it was obvious why he was there. "Yeah... I guess you still love coffee..." Sean says as he takes two mugs out and pours the black liquid in one before pouring boiling water in the other. "Nothing like a cup of coffee to start your day," Cooper says still watching Sean closely. "Do you still like your coffee black or...?" Sean asks trailing off slightly. "Black is fine," Cooper says. "Alright," Sean says as he hands a mug to Cooper then adds a teabag to his own before sitting beside Cooper on the couch. "Still don't like coffee?" Cooper says as he glances at Sean's mug. "No, it's too bitter. Tea just tastes better." Sean says as he stirs his tea. "Then why did you make coffee?" Cooper asks sounding confused. "Because I knew you would come," Sean says as he glances up. Cooper sighs and leans his head back "Is he doing okay?" he asks finally getting to the point of his visit. "He says he is but I can tell he lying," Sean says. "Sean..." Cooper says as he reaches out to touch Sean's hand before thinking better of himself and moving his hand back while averting his gaze. "You're a perceptive person and I know I can't lie to you so I'll just say it. I don't think you should keep investigating all these 'strange things' that you keep talking about. I'm sure it was just some low-life and not some mythical beast." Cooper says as he looks Sean in the eye. "I know that!" Sean yells as he jumps up and slams his mug against the table causing it to spill. "I know you think in crazy alright Cooper. But, I swear I see things that nothing any of you say can explain." Sean says as he gets a towel and starts cleaning. "None of us think you're crazy Sean but all that stuff it's just not possible," Cooper says as he gets up and puts his mug down before walking over to help Sean. "Then how do you explain my dad's death!?" Sean snarls as he pushes Cooper away. "Sean!" Cooper gasps. "No one knows how my dad died but me... and no one believes me because I was 5! And you never even listened to me!" Sean growls. "Okay... I'll listen just please calm down." Cooper says gently as he gets up and offers Sean his hand. "Fine..."
Sean was running through the kitchen after getting bored of playing with the other kids outside. "Sean? What are you doing inside?" Sean's mother asks. "I wanna play with daddy!" Sean says happily giving his mother a toothy grin. "Why aren't you playing with your friends outside?" Sean's mother asks. "All they wanna do is play tag and hide and go seek. I wanna go looking for monsters like daddy does." Sean says proudly. "There's no such thing as monsters. But you can go see him as long as he isn't working." Sean's mother sighs. "Yes, mommy," Sean says before he runs upstairs to his father's study. Before Sean could enter an unfamiliar voice sounded from behind the door. "You're going to burn here along with your family!" a person with a voice that sounded like one thousand snarls. "No! What are you-...!" Sean's father says cutting himself off with screams of agony. Sean cracks the door to see his father on the ground burning and a black-skinned man standing over him...
Present...
"The police just said I had an overactive imagination..." Sean mutters as he looks at his clasped hands. "Sean... that's a super..." Cooper says before Sean cuts him off. "Insane. Trust me I know..." Sean says. "You know I want to believe you right?" Cooper says as he pulls Sean's hands into his lap and squeezes them tight. "I guess..." Sean whispers. "Well, I do but like you said that's insane," Cooper says as he lets Sean's hands go. "I'm going to bed feel free to stay the night..."
