It was an average day. People minding their own business and none less a peaceful day. Except for Konji. A 20 year old tall skinny boy with long blackish hair draped down the sides of his head. A few strands covered part of his face. A dark blue hoodie is what he wears all the time along with torn jeans. He was going to end himself that day. He looked in the bathroom mirror of his ragged apartment with a gun in hand. He hated how he looked, how he felt, who he thought of himself. He shakingly held the gun to his head. Tears streaming down his face.
“Just do it” He said to himself but he never was able to pull the trigger. He lowered the gun in anger. Sitting down in the bathroom and hugging his knees to his chest. The gun remaining on the counter.
“Why can’t you just do it!? What more do you have to live for?!” He shouted out in anguish. He lifted his head as his phone rang from the lid of the toilet. He got out of the tub and looked at his phone. Unknown number. He answered the phone.
“ Hello?” He said with a shaky voice. He wiped the tears away with his sleeve, trying not to sound like he was crying,
“ Is this Konji Tarai?” The person on the other side of the phone asked, their voice sounding calm that it weirdly relaxed him.
“Y-Yes, thats me”
“ I found your wallet at Ross Park. It had your phone number in it and drivers license”
“Oh. I guess lost that a few days ago. I can come there and get it. If you don’t mind leaving it in a hidden place.” He said. At the moment needing something to distract himself.
“ I was going to hand it to you in person. Theres lots of people here that can see me so I don’t want it to get taken again, I’ll be at the first bench by the pond. I’ll be feeding the fish. I have a pink jacket on with brown hair, and a cat book-bag. I’ll see you then” the person hung up as Konji stood there with a light surprised look. He put his phone in his pocket as he looked at the gun. He picked up the gun. Headed to his room. And put the gun in a dresser as he put on his torn sneakers. Didn’t bother tying them as he put his hood up and headed out the door to retrieve his wallet. It was bright outside to the point that the sun blinded him at first, making him squint. He watched cars pass by till he was finally able to cross the street. Following the trail of the park to head to the lake.
Sitting there was a young woman, not tall but not short either. Her short brown wavy hair swayed with the light wind. Her bright smile and those small, yet big curious blue eyes. Her outfit was dressed like a mature young woman. A shirt with a cat on it, having a pink leather jacket tied around her thin waist. Having long skinny jeans with ruggy sneakers on. She had tossed some bread out to the nearby ducks. She just looked really happy. Konji standing there, debating whether to go out towards her. He didn’t want to ruin her day. He looked like a freak. His long hair made him look like a soggy human being, he hasn’t taken a shower for a while. So he must have stunk like old mildew. His clothes were dirty and stained.
He immediately jumped when a duck quacked at him. He waved at it to shoo it off but it continued to bite at his legs. Making him fall down and many other ducks attacked him. The woman looked over seeing Konji getting attacked by the feisty ducks. She tossed the bread out and shoo the others away. Helping Konji to his feet. Konji being covered in feathers, some even poked out of his hair, making the woman giggle.
“Are you alright there sir? “ the woman asked, keeping back her laughter.
“I think so. Didn’t expect to get attacked by ducks” Konji replied, getting the feathers off his hoodie.
“Here, you have some feather in your hair” The woman had reached up and took the feathers out of Konji’s hair. Her being as short to his chest. Her being that close to Konji, It made him have a warm feeling inside. He haven’t felt something like this before. He just couldn’t look away from those beautiful curious eyes. She made eye contact with Konji and immediately backed away.
“Sorry! I didn’t mean to get that close to you! I shouldn’t have popped that personal bubble of yours”
“Oh. You’re fine, your eyes are just beautiful to look at-“ Konji paused a bit. "Why did I say that? What was I thinking?" He thought to himself . He didn’t know what else to say. Completely flustered. The girl was shocked at first, then chuckled soon after.
“I get that alot . My brown hair really make my eyes pop out” she said as she reached inside her bag. Konji standing there, just still trying to process what he just said.
She took out Konji’s wallet, handing it over to him.
“This must belong to you, right?” She said as Konji looked at the wallet. Taking it and putting it in his pocket.
“Thanks..” thats all he managed to say without having his voice cracking. The woman looked at her watch.
“Oh dear, I’m late! Hope we meet again Konji!” She said as she ran off into town. Konji stood there, his chest had a warm feeling that never went away. He was so distracted to how beautiful that woman was and her personality that he didn’t notice the duck that was pecking at his shoelace.
