It was a perfect day for strolling the park. Warm, the sun shining between a few puffs of cloud and trees that kept it from being over-bearing. I watched a couple local kids playing in the playground with a smile and only a touch of whimsy. At least when one of their mom’s saw me from the bench where she was keeping an eye on them she gave a smile and wave rather than a suspicious glare. Granted, I babysat those kids when we were all a few years younger. I waved back before continuing my walk among the trees.
My smile didn’t take long to fade. It had been a month since that last failed date. Friends and family alike kept saying the biggest thing was I just needed to not stress about it. I couldn’t help asking what I was doing wrong. Not much use in trying again before coming up with an answer for that.
That wasn’t all of it either. Perhaps I simply never grew up all the way but I couldn’t help wanting something more out of life. I didn’t need to find out dragons and unicorns were real or anything, but all the same I couldn’t shake the feeling there was something missing.
