I woke up at about 4 am for no reason and couldn't fall back asleep. I turned the light on in my room and looked at the pictures of all the kids, they all looked so normal... Except Orovax. If I didn't know them, I'd think that they were normal, but I know them and they all have powers. I don't know how my aunt got them together or even why she turned this hotel into a house for children. If she didn't do what she did, these children would probably end up in foster care and that would be horrible.
I got dressed, walked into my office, and turned the light on in there too. I sat down at my desk there and started going over the bills, because they would be due soon and I had nothing else to do.
I noticed something on my desk that I didn't expect, it was a letter addressed to me, but it didn't have a return address. I quickly opened it and started reading it. After a while, I realized who it was from, my deceased aunt. The letter said that there was a safe in the room I was in and that if I ever needed money for anything that there was some there. I was given the numbers to open it and was very tempted to open it, which I did, after searching for it for about half an hour. The safe was a lot bigger than I expected and contained more things than just money. There were at least four paintings with frames, ten paintings without frames, a whole pile of letters, a jewelry box, a bust, and of course, a tall pile of money. I think I went a little crazy after that, because I started laughing hysterically.
Once I calmed down, I took a step back, closed the safe, and hid it once again. There was no way I was going to open that again, unless I really needed to. I heard a knock on the door, so I walked over and opened it, to reveal Deraneth holding little Aimiley on her hip, who was rubbing her eyes sleepily.
"There's this weird noise coming from down the hall upstairs and it's scaring the girls." Deraneth said.
"It's scary." Aimiley said.
"I'm guessing the second floor?" I asked. Deraneth glared at me.
"You don't know which floor is designated for the girls?" Deraneth asked.
"I never had any reason to go upstairs." I said. Deraneth sighed.
"It's the third floor." Deraneth said, "Which is irritating because we all have to take the back stairs while the boys can just come down the front stairs." I found that a little weird, considering this place used to be my aunt's place and she cared about women's rights.
"Okay." I said, "I'll go up there with you." Deraneth gave a small smile for a few seconds before she turned and brought me up the stairs to the third floor. I heard a weird sound.
"It's coming from down there." Deraneth said, pointing down the hall. As I walked down the hall, I heard the sound get louder and louder, until I stopped in front of a room that the sound had to be coming from. I opened the door and saw something moving in the dark. I turned the light on and the noise stopped, but the thing was still there. I don't know what it was, but it was creepy and I screamed as the creature lunged at me. It had big black eyes and you would've thought it was human except it's skin was light blue. I didn't move and it stopped moving as we just stared at each other.
"What is going on?" I heard from the hallway, but I didn't stop looking at the creature. Before I knew it, one of the girls was standing right behind me.
"Orovax?" the creature asked with multiple voices at the same time. Sure enough, Orovax walked in front of me.
"Dad?" Orovax asked with her multiple voices. I just stared confused as Orovax and the blue person hugged.
"I'm confused." I said. Orovax looked back at me.
"Oh, yeah." Orovax said, again with multiple voices, "Mr. Towers, this is my Dad. Dad, this is the guy who is currently looking after me, Igiloram Towers" Orovax's Dad didn't look very happy with me after she introduced me.
"He's just a normal human." Orovax's Dad said with multiple voices, by this point I think it's just how he normally talks, "How is he supposed to take care of you, Orovax?"
"Dad," Orovax said, "I'm half human. Don't even try to care him off with your demon ways or whatever, besides this is what Mom wanted."
"What your Mom wanted was for you to be taken care of by Mardessieth Corneam, not this idiot." Orovax's Dad said. Orovax let go of her Dad.
"That's my aunt who just recently passed away." I said, "She gave me this place in her will." Orovax's Dad glared at me.
"Mr. Towers, do you have any experience taking care of children?" Orovax's Dad asked.
"I've been taking care of all fifteen of these children for five almost six months now." I said, "I wanted to go into childcare when I was younger, but my Father said that I had to join his company. I babysat for a long time and even tutored for a while." Orovax looked at me like she didn't believe me, while her Dad continued to glare at me.
"Doesn't seem like you care enough about these kids." Orovax's Dad said.
"Work is stressful and I never thought I'd ever be in this situation where I'm living with 15 children." I said, "I don't intentionally act like this. I don't know how to make it super comfortable for everyone, because I'm not a very social person. I want to make things better. I want them to talk to me about what's going on with them or just anything. I just don't know how to express these things." Orovax's Dad disappeared in a huff.
