It had been a week, maybe longer, since Zeke Cerise had been admitted into the hospital and found out he had inadvertently ended his career through an easily avoidable mistake. Now, he was being taken to the home of Maria Prasine where he could still be cared for and be comfortable. They drove carefully in a disturbed, uncomfortable silence, casting Zeke concerned glances every once in a while.
"I'm sorry." They murmured, a bit louder than they were a few days before, thanks to Zeke and his invention. It was lucky that it worked and that improvements weren't needed, otherwise he would now be unable to help.
"Just drive." He whispered, obviously frustrated with his situation. Maria nodded, even if he couldn't see, driving the rest of the way in that same silence as before. At least, until they were close enough to their home to notice the dark figure that seemed to await in their doorway.
"Zeke? There's someone there." Maria whispered as if that would keep the figure from noticing the pair.
"Just go, I want to lay down in a bed." came his reply after a bit as he moved to face the window, even if he couldn't see out of it. With a soft sigh, they obeyed, pulling into the driveway carefully. Naturally, this caused the figure to turn around, walking curiously out of the shade of the front porch. Its skin seemed to shine- almost as if it were metal. In fact, it was metal. And Maria recognized the figure after a short moment.
"Zeke!" They exclaimed, uncharacteristically loud. This finally seemed to get Zeke's attention, thankfully, "Zeke, it's your robot."
"Excuse me?" The boy whirled back around to face Maria, despite his lack of vision. "That thing works? You're fucking joking."
Almost on queue, the android tapped lightly on the window of the vehicle, making happy whirs. This was his master, right? This was the face registered in his base, after all! "Master! I-I-It is me!" The robot's voice glitched in his excitement.
