I really screwed myself over. I literally did not want this job, seeing as I already work at my father's company, but since I'm the second son and the youngest of four I get nothing from my father. The job I'm talking about is one that I was given by my maternal aunt, who suddenly passed away four months ago, and it's stressful. I have to take care of all these children, there is 14 of them between 3 and 16 and they're all super weird. I don't even get paid for taking care of them, but I did get some inheritance from my grandfather that I saved up for the past eight years after his death, so even though money is sort of tight, it's not too tight.
I thought I got used to them these past four months, but I guess I was wrong, seeing as I can't remember any of their names, even though I assigned each one a different chore, except the 3 year old and the 4 year old, and I take the younger ones to school and daycare everyday in the beat up van I have had for the last 8 years that I never thought I'd fill. Every night is stressful, because I have to feed all 15 of us and even though I have cooking experience it's still a lot to prepare, but thankfully I have two kids helping me, the eldest two of the group, a boy and a girl. I have no idea which one is Izadeth or which one is Deraneth, but I think Izadeth is older, even though I'm pretty sure that they're twins.
I accidentally tripped down the stairs, only to hit something soft and when I got up I saw a pillow that turned into the 3 year old. I cried. Yes, me, Igiloram Towers, a grown man, cried. I was terrified, I didn't know what to do.
"What the heck?" the eldest girl asked as he came around the corner, "Mr. Towers, why are you crying?" I wiped my face with my sleeve and rubbed my eyes.
"That kid was a pillow." I said as I regained composure, pointing at the 3 year old. She looked at me like she was scared and she quickly picked up the preschooler.
"Darinus." the teenager said, probably addressing the 3 year old, "What did I tell you about hiding your powers?" I frowned.
"I'm sorry, Deraneth." the 3 year old, Darinus, said, "I won't do it again."
"Wait, what?" I asked, "What powers?" Deraneth, the girl frowned and slowly looked back over to me.
"Uh..." Deraneth said. She quickly pointed her hand at me and twisted it, as if she was trying to do something. I blinked and then she seemed satisfied.
"Do all of you kids have powers?" I asked, causing Deraneth to jump a little in shock.
"That didn't work on you?" Deraneth asked. I frowned.
"That gesture was supposed to do something?" I asked.
"Uh..." Deraneth said. She quickly ran off with the small child in her arms. I was still standing there puzzled. I heard a knock at the door and quickly walked over to it, but for some reason, I couldn't bring myself to open the door. Another knock was heard and I broke out of whatever was controlling me and opened the door. There was a girl standing there, with long hair that was a very brilliant shade of purple, but it didn't appear to be dyed, and she looked to be about 14.
"Is this Tomia Childrens' home?" the girl asked in a strange voice that sounded like it was a few voices talking at once.
"Yes?" I said hesitantly.
"I need a place to stay." the girl said, but this time without the multiple voices, "My name is Orovax." I frowned.
"I don't know if I have room for another one..." I said. Orovax reached into her sweatshirt and took out what looked to be a huge wad of cash.
"I can pay." Orovax said.
"I don't know where that money came from..." I said, "Even though I probably need it..." Orovax took my hand and put the money in it.
"Just take it." Orovax said. I frowned and let her in.
"I'm not taking this because I want to." I said. Orovax laughed.
"Now, where are the other kids?" Orovax asked, looking around.
"I don't know." I said, "This place used to be a hotel or something, so everyone is wherever."
"Do I get my own room?" Orovax asked. I knew that this kid was going to be some sort of trouble, but what was I supposed to do?
