The first thing Ashlynn did that morning was spew a colorful of montage curse words as she realized that her sister was not only was missing but the entire contents of their shared wardrobe was spread across the floor. Sighing she proceeded to get ready for her first, and most important, class of the day; finding Gracie.
Now dear reader you're probably wondering what does our intrepid, but rather foul-mouthed, heroine look like? From a character's perspective she is a Grey eyed, red-haired, flat-chested fifteen year old girls. From our perspective however she is just funny symbols on a glowing screen so imagine her as you like. Let's get back to the story now.
The dé Crann school for the gifted is located just south of Whitby in a secluded stretch of woodland were the students can party to their heart's content and not bother the townsfolk. The school itself is riddled with secret passageways and crannies, and in one of these we find our heroine, and her sister.
“, I can’t believe you!” seethed Ashlynn stomping through a dust cloud,” you sneak out in the middle of the night to see him!” The him in question is Mr. Darrin Hall, a trust fund baby and Ashlynn’s sister, Gracie’s, boyfriend. One of them.
,” You’re just jea-,”
Ashlynn slapped her, cutting off the rest of the sentence. Then in a voice so quiet that you could barely hear her, she said,” You will go upstairs and change, then you will attend morning classes. Got it?”
All Gracie could do was nod. The rest of the way to the main halls the only him that penetrated the silence was the creaking of the wood floor and the occasional sneeze.Ashlynn left her sister in front of the long, oak stairs in the foyer. She knew it was hopeless however, her sister never listened to her. But breakfast was calling to her, so she gave in.
Ashlynn was standing in line for breakfast when they power cut out. She wasn’t surprised exactly, she knew that the headmaster always chose the disappeared at the same time each month but the sudden darkness was always surprising.
“, Hello students,” crackled the intercom in a dull monotone,” this month's disappeared has been chosen. Continue with your day.” And with that announcement the light flooded the dining hall. Ashlynn watched as crying girls hugged each other and counted heads, as boys punched and teased each other to break the silence, and as teachers held back tears and wished they could save the children, but they should know what's impossible by now, she thought, It’s unlikely these ones will last.
“, Megan’s gone!” a hysteric female voice screeched
Megan. Megan. Megan. The students chanted, to remember her, even if the outside had forgotten her, they wouldn’t, they never would.
