For a solid minute, I can't comprehend whats going on around me. I can see everything that's happened but I just can't bring myself to believe it. Carter and everything else in the gym have been thrown back several feet. There are scorch marks all around me in a huge circle and the front of Carter's clothes look like they've been burned too. Everyone in the gym looks just as stunned as I feel, they're all just staring at me wide-eyed as they struggle to sit up. Once I regain my senses I do what any adrenaline-filled, terrified teenage boy would do in my situation.
I haul ass out of there as fast as I can.
I don't look where I'm going as I run, just let my instincts guide the way as I make a quick escape out of the gym and then the school. In fact, I don't really know where I'm going at all, just that I need to get as far away from everything that just happened as I can. By the time I have to stop running to catch my breath I realize that I've run all the way to the town's library. A.K.A my home away from home.
I can't believe what just happened. Did I just blow up or something? Is that even possible? I could have hurt somebody! Forget hurt, I could have killed someone! I may hate Carter but I don't want to kill the guy, at least not right now! Carter was standing right next to me when it happened, his shirt was freaking burned, what if I'd done serious damage?
"Calm down Lemon, he was fine. If he'd have been burned you would have been able to see it" I said to myself.
I needed to chill out and gather my thoughts, freaking out wasn't doing me any good so far and if I wanted to have a chance at figure out what the hell had just happened then I need to keep my cool. It was time to think, who could I ask about this kind of shit? Not my parents obviously, they would either freak and take me to the doctor or just think I was joking around. Not my friends either, they were all in school right now, and there was no way I was going back there. Who else was there? I couldn't think of a single person to help me with this.
As I was contemplating how utterly screwed I was someone came up behind me. I didn't notice until it was too late. The next thing I knew I was hit on the back of the head with something hard. The last thing I heard before I blacked out was someone talking.
"We've got Locke, make sure to pick up the other one too, it's time."
