Aliyah groaned as he woke up, his head was pounding, his wings were throbbing and to make matters worse, his arms and legs were bound to his bed. He looked around his room. There was an annoying beeper and few other machines that he was hooked up to, he as also hooked up to a bag filled with a strange clear liquid. He knew it wasn’t water because water was blue and the liquid was not blue. The walls were white, his sheets were white, his clothes were white. What was with all the white? Just then his door opened and a man came in. He was wearing a long white coat and thick rimmed glasses, he was carrying a clipboard that had a few papers attached to it. He grabbed a chair and moved it so it was next to Aliyah’s bed. He crossed his legs, grabbed a pen from his coat and looked straight at Aliyah.
He couldn’t understand a word of what he was saying.
Aliyah knew this was going to end tragically , without his translator he would never be able to talk to anyone. He was going to be homeless, alone and hungry. He almost started to cry.
Once the man discovered that Aliyah couldn’t understand him, he wrote something down and left the room. Aliyah let out a breath of relief, thankful the man had left. He heard murmurs outside his door. It sounded like a very heated argument and it appeared that the loudest one was losing. After it had died down another man walked into his room. He had curly brown hair, red glasses and three eyes. It had been a while since he’d seen a physic or even a telepath but he knew why they were here. The man sat on the chair next to his bed, his third eye opened.
Clair POV
Clair was angry. He couldn’t believe that because of one lie, this thing fell from the sky! To make matters worse he had to be the one to take care of it. The damn thing didn’t know english either so he was going to be a babysitter AND a teacher. He stormed into the hospital, marching up to the front desk.
“Where the hell am I supposed to be Susan?” He growled. Susan, unphased, pointed her uncapped pen at the elevator.
“Third floor, last room on the left.” She replied, scribbling something on her clipboard. He marched into the elevator. He couldn’t believe this was happening, who knew karma would take things so this time. He wondered what this thing was like. Was it hostile? They had brought it in unconscious and breathing, he wondered if it was even awake. He walked off the elevator, his steps echoing as he walked down the hall. He immediately made eye contact with the doctor and walked a bit faster towards him.
“What am I doing here?” He demanded, “I had to cancel a very important meeting to be here.” The doctor cleared his throat and looked down at his clipboard.
“We called you in here to see if you could get into its mind and figure it out why it’s here.” He glanced up at Clair. “That’s also why we want you to take it home.”
“What makes you think I have the room? The resources? Or even the TIME to take care of it?” He argued.
“You live in a two bedroom apartment and have the highest salary of anyone in Voyance. You can support another living thing."
Clair huffed, moving some hair from his face. He sighed and walked into the room. The thing looked human, minus the wings and intricate markings that are on its arms. He turned the chair around and sat down. The creature looked at him with growing interest, smiling at him. He smiled back at him. He let his third eye open and entered his mind.
There was nothing there.
It’s brain was completely blank, there was nothing but a white nothingness. He opened his eyes and stared at it for a long time. How could something like this happen? Everyone has some memory or thought, How was this possible? Clair shot out of his chair and out the door.
“Well?” The Doctor looked at him hopefully. He rubbed the back of his head.
“There isn’t exactly anything we can learn.” He finally said.
The doctor looked puzzled “What do you mean by that?” Clair sighed.
“It means, there’s nothing to learn, there’s nothing in his brain.” The doctor was shocked, he looked through all of his notes, studying every line. He looked back up at Clair.
“T-This can’t be!” The doctor stuttered, he ran down the hall, his papers flying behind him. Clair raked his hand threw his hair, the doctor should’ve been used to the abnormal by now. He opened the door to the things room again.
Aliyah Pov
The man came back into the room. He stared at Aliyah for a long time before he reach for his hand. Aliyah hesitated, he wasn’t sure if he should trust this man with three eyes. Though, he was never given a reason not too. He had been the nicest person he’d met today, but he did go inside of his head. He cautiously reached out and took his hand. It was very soft. He gripped it tightly as the man helped him out of the bed. Aliyah then realised he was naked. He looked at the man. He was getting red but he didn’t know why. Aliyah felt a little wobbly as they walked out of the room, the man was very tall and big, his hair looked really soft and springy. Aliyah wanted to play with it but decided this wasn’t the best time to do so. The man took off his top shirt and put it on him. It like a dress on him. Aliyah giggled and the man smiled. They walked out of the building. The man opened the door to a strange vehicle and gestured for him to get in. Aliyah hesitated, he had never seen one these before. He slowly got into the vehicle, the smell of leather and pine filled the air. The man got into the chair in front of him, moved a few things and the vehicle came to life, Aliyah squeaked and tried to get out, it was going to eat him. The man looked back at him, saying something that he couldn’t understand. He calmed down after a while and curled up into a little ball. Even though he had spent the whole day in bed and asleep, he was tired. The rumbling of the strange vehicle lulled him into sleep.
Clair POV
Clair sighed with relief. He looked back at the small creature that was fast asleep. He was actually starting to enjoy the things company, it looked very cute wearing his sweater. He pulled into the garage of his apartmentbuilding. He opened the back door and picked it up, carrying him into the elevator and into his guest room, he left some clothes on the table next to it and quietly closed the door.
He groaned and slammed his hand down onto his alarm clock, he turned over and sighed, two big blue eyes stared back him. He screamed and fell out of his bed. The thing sat up and stretched out, its wing unfolding and stretching out as well.
“What are you doing in here?” He yelled. The thing looked confused. Clair rubbed the bridge of his nose. He led thing back to its room.
“You, stay here.” He gestured to the bed and walked out. He grabbed some clothes from his closest and walked into bathroom. There was a knock at the door, he opened it up and sighed loudly.
“Can you not follow me everywhere? I have to take a shower and you bei-” The thing hugged him tightly. Its head buried into his chest. He didn’t know what to do, he just stood there awkwardly. The thing finally let him go and went downstairs. He sighed with relief and closed the door.
He decided it was best if he took the thing with him. He couldn’t trust the thing alone in his house. It probably didn’t even know how to work a microwave. He parked his car and opened the door for it. It had taken at least thirty minutes to get it to put on shoes. That as an experience he could live without. He guided it around his office, completely ignoring his co workers and going straight to his room. He didn’t need them asking questions about his arrangement. He pointed to a chair.
“You, stay here and sit quietly.” He commanded. “Please.” He added. It grabbed his shirt and pointed to his bookshelf. He picked up a dictionary, the thing reached for it. He scoffed and handed it to him.
“Maybe you’ll learn some english.” He joked. He sat down at his desk and started to work.
He was only productive for a about an hour before starting to slack off.
He stared at the thing in front of him. It hadn’t even been a full day and the thing had already made his life a bit more interesting. The thing looked as if it were studying the dictionary, taking every word and meaning into careful consideration. It was as if it was never going to see these words again. He sighed and leaned back into his chair, he know he should work but what can they do? They know if they fire him that everything will collapse along with that they fear with what he can do. The thing dropped the dictionary on the floor. It had finished reading.
He chuckled, “Hope you learned something from that.”
“I learned that i can’t pronounce big words and that my name wasn’t in there.” It replied. His eyes widened, he looked back at the dictionary.
“How did you do that?” He asked in awe.
It shrugged, “No idea, but now that I can actually understand you this should make our lives a bit easier.”
He nodded, “Well, since you can talk I believe introductions are in order.” He got up and extended his hand. “I’m Clair.”
It took it. “My name is Aliyah.”
He raised an eyebrow, “Isn’t Aliyah a girl's name?”
“Is Clair not also a girl’s name.” It retorted. He smiled and sat back down, kicking his feet up onto the desk.
“Do have anything you want to go by?” He asked.
“Well first of all, it’s ‘He’ not ‘It’ or ‘They’. Secondly, I can’t sleep by myself, it isn’t safe.”
Clair scoffed, “It’s not like someone is going to kidnap you.”
Aliyah glared at him, “You know nothing of what i am.”
“Was” Clair corrected. “You were something before you fell and now you are nothing but a human with wings.”
“And you’re just a nothing that wants to be something.” He argued. Clair frowned, he cleaned his glasses. No one has ever said that to him. He knew right away he was going to like this guy.
“I maybe a nothing.” He started, “But I’m the one keeping you alive right now, so you owe me some answers. Like: Where did you come from?” And so, for the rest of the work day, Aliyah explained to him the last thing that they could remember. Which was mostly just the voice of a man and the fall.
“That would explain why your head was empty.” Clair chimed.
“About that, what is up with this place? Everyone here seems to either fear you completely worship you.”
Clair laughed. Everyone feared him and if they worshipped him then they were bigger fools than the others.
“They don’t worship me per say, they fear me.”
“But why? You seem pretty okay to me”
He shrugged. “I’ve always assumed it was because of my telepathy and mind control. I never really even use my powers unless it’s absolutely necessary.” Aliyah nodded and looked out the window. Clair sighed and looked at his clock, he thought for a bit. He stood up and grabbed his coat.
“What are you doing?” Aliyah asked.
“Put your shoes on, we’re gonna go out and get some food.” Aliyah slid into his shoes and followed him out the door.
“What are we gonna eat?” Aliyah asked, fiddling with the strings on his hoodie.
“We’re gonna get my favorite thing in the whole world.” Clair replied, “Ice cream.”
