The sun was high overhead when I reached the city, haven taken a bus as soon as I got to the town. As I walked by a few of the supernatural race, I wanted to laugh. Just to think that they unknowingly walked past the most feared person in the world. Many of the humans know of me as a serial killer, one that has yet to be caught.
I yanked a few dollars off a couple people for the bus ride when I decided to go back home. After walking for a while, I did find the place where I was going to be staying. The garage door was open, a plethora of boxes inside, all full and unopened. I weaved my way past them, entering the house. Two people were sitting at a table, reading over some papers. The man looked up at me, shocked, while the woman turned around and screamed.
I rolled my eyes, “no wonder you’re ex-hunters. You would be dead if you kept that up.”
“Excuse me, young lady!?” The woman, who I assumed to be Bianca, exclaimed while pointing a finger, “how dare you say such a thing!”
“Honey, calm down,” Mike tried, but it didn’t do a thing.
“I hope you know that during your stay here, we are your acting parents, so you need to behave-”
“I don’t care,” I interrupted, “and you’re probably thinking, ‘oh, no! Our daughter is in her rebellious teenage stage!’ I hate to break it to you, but that’s not the case. It’s my life on the line, not yours. Not to mention, I’m a little pissed at the Master for not telling me anything in advanced. So to sum it up, I’m in a bad mood, and I won’t be staying here for the night.”
Bianca didn’t seem to want to agree, her face contorted into a furious expression. Mike grabbed her arm before she exploded in my face before glaring down at me, “she has a point though, Rose. We don’t care if the master is your uncle, we-”
“Well I’m going to scope out the house and then go buy some clothes, since I don’t actually own any. And just to remind you,” I shot back, “this is business, not a real family like you’re trying to make it out to be.”
“Is this how you treat your family?” Bianca fumed, taking a step forward.
I rolled my eyes again, “of course not.”
“How do you think your parents would feel if they found out about this inappropriate behavior!?”
I laughed, pushing some of my hair behind my ear, “well for one, I doubt they would give a shit because they’re dead. I was chosen because I’m disposable. This mission is important and if anything happens, it’s all going to be pinned on me- who will be dead before I could even bother to give a statement.” The look in their eyes confirmed that they were eating up my lies, and I smirked, “so how about you let me do what I want before I die?”
Neither replied as I walked away, down a single hall with three doors. They left me alone as I looked around, finding that the house had two bedrooms, one having its own bathroom while the third door in the hallway was another, larger one. The kitchen and living room were connected, and the back door lead to a poor excuse for a backyard. Not that I cared, the forest was my home, and if I wanted it to be my backyard, then so be it. No one was going to tell me no. Finding nothing of interest, I left without saying anything. I had just wanted to quickly familiarize myself with the house before I actually stayed there for a night.
With a few stolen dollars, I began my way through the downtown area where they had a few clothing shops, and bought myself clothes that I could wear during school, long-sleeved turtlenecks with pants and boots. In the changing room, I made sure that the boots had enough room for at least one knife, just in case. I considered wearing my hunter’s boots, but I knew that it would be too risky.
Having bought clothes with other people’s money, I returned to the house, where I found Mike waiting for me, “I’m sorry about earlier. I understand that you’re going through a lot of stress, but what you had said earlier really upset Bianca. She was… Never a good Hunter. Too much a heart to kill. She ended up quitting because of the same thing you told her, ‘you’d be dead if you kept that up.’”
“I hate to sound rude,” I sighed, “but I really don’t care.”
Mike merely gave me a disappointed look, “all you Hunters are the same.” He stood up and walked out of the room, “you’re all heartless animals.”
“So I’ve been told,” I muttered, dropping the bag of clothes on the floor and sitting on the bed, “so I’ve been told…”
