“Shhh, Doni, you really need to be more quiet!” Mary whispered, taking a seat on the corner of Donis pillow, and leaning in toward him.
“I mean, Mother did not send for him. He is coming of Headmaster Orders, not Mothers…” Mary said
Doni’s eyes widened at this revelation, and for once he seemed stunned speechless thinking about what that meant. Mary took this time to examine her friend, to try to imprint his face in her memory- she didn’t know when she would see him next. His blood-red skin and matching gems above his green eyes. Mary was disappointed that his messy black hair hid his pointed ears right now, but she spent enough time looking at his cute ears before to always remember what those looked like.
Doni began shaking his head and puffed his already round cheeks.
“I don’t understand, why didn’t Mother send for him?” Doni clenched his fists on the pillow and looked at his adopted sister.
“Wha-what do you mean?” Mary laughed a little, taken by surprise at how angry Doni seemed by this.
“I mean, all this time She’s been telling us he’s coming, and that we’ll be going to the academy soon! Getting us all excited, and come to find out she never sent for him! What if Headmaster didn’t decide to send him anyways?” Mary motioned with her fury hands for Doni to be quiet, as his voice had gotten louder and his temper flared.
“I don’t know Doni, she knew he was coming anyway? I mean...he’ll probably be here any minute, and you and all the others will be heading off to the academy in the morning... So what if she didn’t send for him? You’re still getting what you hoped for…” Mary trailed off and turned her back to Doni, and it was his turn to be surprised by his friend's behavior.
Doni sat quietly for a moment before moving close enough next to her that his red hairless arm pressed against her fury pink one.
