My mom used to tell me there are rules to working with technology that you don’t break.A code of ethics that somewhere along the line I lost respect for.Don’t exploit the technicality of Artificial Intelligence for yourself and never try to outsmart one.I’m not ashamed to say I broke both rules in what I have turned to.She would have been there to scold me for it, but she’s in a far better place now, so sorry mom.Or so that’s what they told me.I stopped listening to people for a long time and started to listen to machines.I became a ghost , not known by anyone while knowing them at the same time.A weapon to those who seek my aid, and the Devil to those whom I singlehandedly conquered with the few presses of a keyboard.
We operate on our own will under obscurity. No One knows who I am, or at least that’s what I wanted to think. I can only test luck for so long, the times I wanted to ask myself why did I turn the other way?Maybe that’s why I’m here, the other inmates here always questioned why a genius like me got caught in such a simple scheme. And all for a client that I would have easily escaped from.Perhaps I’m not as screwed in the mind as I thought I was.Well, I have all the time in the world to think about it inside this cage, concealed, damned, any words to express it other than hell.
“ Eadiyn Elizabeth Fox”
Curiosity got me, I never heard that voice before. For every moment I spent here, that strange tone was one I never knew.Looking up, I almost felt my eyes were playing tricks on me, the person standing outside...long, fading blonde covered mostly by dark hair, blue eyes, I was almost confused as to who called my name. The voice was bordering a man’s and a woman’s, yet the figure was rather slender for a man.Wearing a leather jacket, dark pants, and boots,....was this a visitor?
“I’m sorry I think you have the wrong person.Visiting room is down the hall”
“I wouldn’t be standing here If I wasn’t looking for Cameron Fox ,Eadiyn. There are people who know your face and who you are.”
“...What do you want?”
“Take this” he slips something through the small flap in the door.Usually meant for food, I got closer to it and saw that it was a phone.”Hide it, if you want to live.At 8 there will be another message, read it and wait. Now, excuse me the officers are waking up in about 5 minutes so be patient.”
“What?”
I took a look outside to see that he was gone.Outside in the hall, no sound, no bangs, nothing. It almost seems as if someone released knockout gas and everybody passed out all at once. Not a single voice nor sound escaped.I took a few steps back, and a few glances to the side.It felt like I was trying to hide a packet of a crack somewhere.Huh, so that’s how it was like.Seeing the coast was clear allowed me to peer into what was on my hand.It was a cellphone, my hand was shaking.Elation jolts through me, I wasn’t allowed near machines during my stay. The guards were hellbent on ensuring that.Within minutes, it was on and I already was pressing keys unconsciously.A rhythm I had inscribed into my mind, I glanced at the built in the wall clock. This will be one hell of a night.
Walk down the hall, this prison has yet to upgrade its camera systems.Get moving. This is not exactly a stroll in the park, considering the cell doors are sealed from the outside. And all eyes are watching if I dare to walk 7 steps out of line in a crowded area. With right now, I’m stuck behind a locked door that operates on the guard’s keys.Great.I tried prying the door open, no luck.A faint choking groan outside caught my attention, I was frozen in place.Moments later silence, then thud!Footsteps inching closer to my door, it stopped dead in front of me.The door slides harshly to the side of the darkness outside. The problem was, it was just dark outside.
“Don’t talk, take a right and keep walking.”My body was moving on its own desperate, to simply get the heck out of there. As if a fire is about to devour the entire prison, I barely stopped to pause.I couldn’t remember exactly what directions I took but somehow I was standing in the front of a line of cameras, a sealed door stood in front of me.
How the hell am I a free man after this?Escaping is easy, I could disable the cameras or rewire them no sweat. The door is automated after their renovation so I could open it just as easily but even then.Fuck it, I have a cellphone.Though wiping the camera’s feed wasn’t the best idea, standing there to let it record me is not on my bucket list. The door was cracked open and I slip past it, the front of the prison was lit but it wasn’t enough for me to see past a certain perimeter.
At 8 PM no one is visiting, and the guards would be making their daily rounds.Only this time, there was not a single sound to be heard.Stepping forward my foot was instantly soaked even past my socks.Gross, the leakage of this prison lacks more in hygiene than anything.Rainwater can easily be mixed with feces from other inmates. But as the light from the poorly maintained fixtures above me flickered I started to see that the pool of water was much more...red.Instantaneously my head turns to the side for whatever reason and, where an officer lies on the desk.Head facing down and neck bent in a grotesque position, his body was limp and his shirt was saturated with blood.I almost lost my footing.
