Chapter 14
BZZZZT BRINGGG! BRINNG BZZZT!
Waking up with an alarm blaring in his ear sucked.
Getting up because he was supposed to be a responsible person sucked.
Getting ready and forcing himself to be conscious sucked.
Walking to work at the ass crack of dawn sucked.
The sun was still trying to regain consciousness right now, why do I have to be fully awake before it? Oh yeah, because life sucks!
That was Zine's morning. He had woken up at four thirty a.m, got ready and left, since he always had to be early no matter what, because he was a dumbass.
After being ten minutes early to work, he had been given his uniform, a white, slightly puffy shirt, black pants, and a waist apron. After changing, Tawny explained the rules and the day began.
It was rather easy, not that many customers came in all at once, it was about four or five at a time. Tawny showed him how the machines worked and how to properly heat up pastries.
All the recipes for coffee were written down and the coffee machine did most of the work. But just in case, she showed him how to do each one by hand.
He could easily take the customer’s orders and wait on them properly. He had a job for a few months at a restaurant before and it was not too different.
“You're doing quite nicely kid!” Tawny said after all the customers had left.
“Keep this up and we will be ready by the time school starts! I will be in the back reorganizing the shelves, if anyone comes in do you think you can handle it?”
He saluted Tawny.
“Yes ma’am I believe I will be able to manage!”
Tawny laughed.
“Alright kid if you need me you know where to find me.”
Zine started wiping down tables, he heard the front door of the coffee shop open and close.
“Oh.” He said turning around,
“Can I help yo-” His sentence died in his throat.
Stalker man was back it seemed.
Zine took a step back, bumping into the table he had been wiping down. He swallowed, and steeled his nerves.
Confidently, he straightened his spine and looked at the man.
“May I help you sir?” He said in a polite tone.
The man stared at him with hunger in his eyes, before turning into a calm look.
“No actually I want to help you.” The man said.
Da huh? Zine thought.
He put the rag down on the table behind him, interested.
He felt suspicion, but he would hear the crazy man out. Not much else he could do unless he threw the guy out of the store.
The man sat at a table by the window.
He asked for a black coffee, that was easy enough for him to make. After he brought the man his drink, he stood up, went to the other side of the table, and pulled out the other chair, offering it to Zine.
Uhhhh ok I guess, Zine thought.
He took a seat and was startled when the man gently pushed him in. The strange man took his seat, and stirred his drink.
“I want you to go to my school.” The man started.
“...Huh?” Zine squeaked out.
“Let me introduce myself, the man continued, my name is Obsidian Howzer and I am the principal of H private, I would like to offer you a scholarship.”
Zine sat there in shock. Then he remembered the papers he dropped, they had some of his report cards in there.
“Is it because of my grades?” Zine asked.
“No, although they are rather high, it's because you're not human.” Obsidian replied, sipping his coffee.
“Eh?.....EHH?! What are you talking about?!” Zine squeaked.
How the hell did he know! Zine mentally cried to himself.
“If you're wondering why I know, it's because I'm not human either.” Obsidian continued.
“I try to help any non-humans I meet, by giving them a home, a job, or introducing them to other non-humans.” Obsidian stirred his cup of coffee with a spoon.
“Wait wait wait, back the truck up,” Zine interrupted.
“You're not human? Prove it, and you can not possibly be a principal, you look way too young!”
Obsidian smirked, and gave him an open mouthed grin, flashing fangs.
“About my age I'm a lot older than I look.” Obsidian grinned.
Zine felt his head swim, it was just too much all at once. But he couldn't possibly let this opportunity get away, could he?
“Well, if you need some time to think things through, I will just get going for now and we can talk later.” Obsidian said, about to stand up.
“Wait! I’ll take it!” The words stumbled out of his mouth desperately. He needed to know more and was terrified that the man would disappear.
Obsidian smiled brightly, looking accomplished.
“Great! So we can move you into your new room and get you situated within a week.”
“Wait what?” Zine asked, confused.
“Well, you need to be close to the school right?” Obsidian answered.
“One of the requirements for the scholarship I'm offering is that you live in the house across the street, and we like to have non-humans living with or near us. Plus, it will make it easier for me to explain all the rules. Your room is already made so you can check it out after your shift here.”
Zine stared blankly at this man, who was suddenly dumping all of this onto him.
“Uh…” Zine started.
“Also, room and board are all free because of the scholarship. So if you're worried about money, it's not a problem.” Obsidian finished his coffee and put the money for it on the table. He stood up and started walking towards the door.
“I'll wait for you outside the house across the school.”
Zine sat speechless, and before Obsidian could fully walk out the door, he turned and yelled after him.
“But I still have my lease!”
Obsidian popped his head back into the shop.
“I can take care of that.” Obsidian smiled softly, turned, and left.
Zine slowly picked himself up, and put the money away. He tracked down the rag he was using earlier, and continued to clean tables.
Da fuck just happened? Zine thought.
