I nodded and called over two men, one was about a head and a half taller than me with a completely shaved head. His entire body was covered in tattoos. They other was around my height with black hair that flopped across his head and upturned eyes. They followed me off the ship as we headed in the direction of Cardigan Hall.
It was a ways off from the port but we got there quickly enough. The cobblestone walkway outside of Cardigan hall was a disaster. Blood poured out of countless bodies and in the center of it all was Callum and Conrad. They looked like zombies, their eyes were almost black, popping out of their head, and they were foaming at the mouth. I couldn’t help but make a face at the sight of the two, but quickly regained my composure. I motioned for my men to back up. We hid behind a wall as I observed the two.Callum- Well, he was not looking his prettiest.
Suddenly a Model T car swerved around the corner opposite us, it stopped in front of Conrad and Callum and a plethora of white dressed men hopped off, they quickly surrounded the members of my crew and subdued them. I strained my eyes as they injected something into each of their necks. I sucked in a breath as their bodies went limp in their arms. The men in white dragged them back to the car, I sighed seeing them still breathing. The men cleaned up the blood covered street until it looked like nothing had happened at all.
One of the men looked around at their surroundings, and I dove down behind the wall. My men did the same, and I put my finger to my lips. “Search the vicinity! No witnesses per order!” I heard one bellow. I paled at the words, and shut my eyes. Damn!
I motioned for my men to scatter. If they were to find us, they’d only get one. The black haired man- Vincent, disappeared without a sound, and not even I was aware of where he went. The tall one- Baldy? I forgot his name often.. ran the opposite direction. Right towards the men in white coats, and into the hall.
Moron! I mentally hiss at him. Even I, wasn’t that bloody stupid. I look over at the ledge ahead of me. There was a man made stream of water running along the ledge. It was quite a bit lower, and I figured I could hang along it without getting in the water. I army crawled along to the place, cursing as I got mud on my coat. I took a deep breath, and hoped I could hang along the edge without anyone noticing. I wondered if my fingers would be a problem when I saw the indent running along below it.
I turn around, hopping down backwards. My fingers latching on just in time. I hiss as my knee slams against the concrete. Not so much from pain, but the loud noise it was sure to emit. I raise myself up slightly, letting my eyes peek over the ledge. I saw two men walk into the hall, and I closed myself. There was no hope for baldy. I almost lost my grip on the ledge when I heard the gunshots ringing out.
Baldy only had a sword. I would’ve had a moment of silence for him if it weren’t the fact that I had no choice, but to be silent. I only hoped that Vincent hadn’t faced the same fate as Baldy. I saw one of the men look over in my direction, and I let my head fall down.
Please don’t let him come over here. I silently prayed. “I’m gonna check over there behind the hall!” I heard who I assumed was the same man. Double damn! I feel my heart rate slowly speed up with every foot step here. I’m practically hugging the wall, and by the time the soldier get’s close, my heart is practically chipping the wall off.
His foot pressing on the stones ledge, breaking a tiny bit of rock that landed on my face. I glared up at him, and I suppose it was for the best that he didn’t see it. He leered over the edge, looking right over me, and I wished I could melt into the wall. The man stood up straight and turned away.
“All clear!” I heard him shout. I didn’t pull myself up until the screeching of car wheels told me they had left. I looked around at the surrounding area. There was no sign of the earlier massacre. I felt the lump in my throat get larger as I wandered back to the Victorrus.
When I got back to the ship Vincent was already there, he looked up, his eyes hopeful, and I shook my head. Baldy was gone. I explained what had happened and we raised the black flag of mourning. Angelica came up to me, her eyes dark.
“We should go after those people! Get them back for what they have done!” She hissed. She was a fighter, fiery and stubborn. She had a bad habit of jumping into things without thinking them through. Not that I’m much better.
“I'm tired, Angelica. We lost three crew members. Let us rest our minds tonight. But tomorrow I intend to find who took my crew.” I replied my voice rough and ragged. “Set sail tonight, by morning we should be in the skies above the Kalvington bay.”
She let me past into the captain's quarters. I shut the door behind me and fell down onto my bed. What am I going to do? I pondered before sleep began calling to me.
