“I just don't know anymore! I feel-”
He pulled her in close, gently pressing his lips to her for a tender moment. She barely had time to react before he pulled away, keeping his nose just barely touching her.
“You're so silly.”
Offended, she pushed him away, her anger refocusing onto him. With hands on her hips, she opened her mouth to yell some more, but stopped.
He had casually leaned against the wooden frame of the barn doors, a gentle, teasing smile adorning his face. His green eyes sparkled with the sort of mature but mischievous glint she had fallen in love with.
“Did you have to assault me to shut me up?”
A part of her still felt offended but in the back of her mind, she couldn't up but wonder what he had in mind.
Crooking a finger at her, he waved her closer until her chest touched with his own. Then, he wrapped his arms around her waist and held her preciously close. He buried his face in her neck, his breath teasing her skin.
She returned his gesture of comfort, tangling her fingers in his hair as her anger dissipated.
“You calmer now?”
“Yeah…”
“Good.” He pulled away to cup her face in his hands. “Everything will be alright. You two can work this out, I'm sure.”
“I know that. She just makes me so mad!”
“I know, baby, I really do. But, you're not alone. Jessica and Shonda believe you, don't they?” She nodded her head dejectedly. “See? You're never alone. I'm always here, too.”
Feeling better, she kissed his cheek.
“Oh, and to answer the question about me “assaulting” your lips… that's just because you're so cute when you get mad.”
Shoving him back as he laughed, she turned on her heel and walked out of the barn.
“You are such a guy!”
“I thought that's what you loved about me!” As she continued to walk on, he jogged up behind her, “hey, where are you going?!”
“To talk to Shonda. At least she'll listen to me.” With that she sprinted up the path, back to the house.
“Hey! I listen to you!” He sprinted after her, quickly gaining, before he lifted her from the ground and raced with her back into the house, where her daddy watched from the kitchen window with a disapproving frown.
