East Central plaza.
A corpse has been spotted floating in the fountain, drifting in circles, showing no signs of life.
*Blub* *Blub*
This was the sound of an underwater sigh.
Aspirs underwater sigh.
Things had been going so well for him. Work was easy and he got a bonus for not missing any shifts that month, which would definitely help with bills and food. It felt like the sun had been shining on him the entire time as he headed home, he even found some money on the floor! Things really were looking up, until he had logged on.
She had been waiting for him.
Sweetcheeks was pissed.
He had sworn to himself that he would stick to his TVWT training, knowing that he would gain an advantage over other players and be able to progress in the game much faster because of it.
What Aspir failed to realise was that 'Sweetcheeks' wasn't just some dumb NPC broad loaded with muscle, she was a real life instructor. The TVWT was an app created for the use of the Limits Dojo. The limits Dojo was a worldwide organisation that sought to record and educate in the use and versatility of body improvement through combat. Long story short it was full of fighting fanatics.
The app had been commissioned and designed by them so that they could hone and improve their skills through life and death battles. After all the world no longer catered for these kinds of people due to the advancement of modern weaponry.
So began Aspirs harrowing trial and cause of his current state.
He had entered TVWT just expecting, a repeat of a bare fisted Sweetcheeks beating him down. Instead, she was fully equipped and armoured.
He didn't stand a chance.
As soon as he entered he was hit, not even able to catch a glimpse of what had hit him. He could just feel it on his body, luckily virtual training didn't cause bruises in real life.
"So you think it's okay to skip training with me?!" Sweetcheeks thunderous roar deafened him.
"No-one skips my training, I will make you into a strong man whether you want to or not Adam!" How did she know his real name?
Only then did she tell him about TWVT and the limits Dojo. It turned out that TWVT also worked as a recruitment app where they would pretend to be NPC's at first to assess whether or not a person was suitable to join the Dojo. Unfortunately for him she had been impressed with his perseverance and decided to make him join the Dojo. Forcefully if necessary.
Perhaps this was another reason for the Apps bad history.
During the entire exchange she didn't stop hitting him once, she was a machine. No matter how he tried to, he couldn't block or dodge at all. Imagine the most pleasant teacher delivering lessons in a straightforward and easy manner whilst repeatedly smashing your head into the blackboard, trying to use your skull as a piece of chalk.This was how Aspir felt.
Which brings us back to the fountain.
Her last words as he fled to the safety of virtual space was to 'expect a package through the post.' They even had his address now.
So he continued his floating, mindless to the world, just attempting to process everything that had just happened. If only it was a bad dream, surely he wasn't this unlucky to attract some kind of muscular training machine god.
*Blub* *Blub*
Even his status screen was lying to him saying that everything was fine, whilst he felt like fate was against him.

If only the game could assess his mental state, he just needed something to curl up into and make himself feel better.
*Blu.......b* (sigh)
At least he could remain floating in the water, watching the light play on the bottom of the fountain as the fish swam by.
The man in the fountain was becoming a kind of event for players, they were wondering if it was some unscripted event or continuation of someone's quest. Even guards were starting to show up expecting foul play of some kind.
What finally put an end to this in-prompt 'event' and Aspir's wallowing was a giant.
A giant decked in furs and leather armour, hammers hanging from each hip and a great sword slung across his back, this giant went fishing.
Aspir's rude awakening from his solemn floating was the feeling of hard fingers wrapping around the nape of his top and hauling him out into the air, flopping slightly from the force, spraying water everywhere like a freshly caught fish.
His eyes re-orientating themselves to the light, he felt himself dangling in the air face to face with a bearded giant who was grinning broadly.
"Well my friend, whilst it's nice to have a dip every now and then, I'd recommend an inn in future if you want a bath." Following the giants words was a deep laugh that seemed to reverberate through Aspir.
Aspir was simply stunned, having no idea what to say.
"Well you look fine, but lets at least get you dried off, colds are hard to get rid of unless you pay a priest," with that the giant slung Aspir over his shoulder and walked away. Leaving a lot of confused players behind, wondering what had just transpired.
Aspir had been kidnapped.
A small amount of time later
A roaring hot furnace, a fine veil of sweat and a cold pint of beer, this was apparently to be Aspir's treatment for a potential cold.
His 'kidnapper' had carried him all the way from the eastern plaza, through streets and alleyways, back to the central plaza. Aspir really needed a map. Though his only view on the way had been people staring and wondering why he was being carried, more than likely assuming he was to be the giants 'dinner.
Maybe he was going to be! He had to escape! But the giant had a grip like that of a steel vice and Aspir couldn't attack as he was in a non-combat area.
Calming himself for a second he realised that he couldn't possibly be eaten as it was a non-combat area. Then again would cooking an ingredient count as combat?
Finally, the giant stopped at a little store, puffing smoke into the sky. In front of the store were racks adorned with various weapons and armours, all glistening and shiny in the light.
The giant without pause carried him straight through into a courtyard behind the shop and plonked him down near an active furnace. Briefly disappearing the giant returned with two barrel sized mugs of beer and sat opposite his captive.
"The names Bear"
Aspir froze in shock from the absurd situation that he found himself in. Breaking him out of his shock was the large and calloused hand of his captor, extending itself out in greeting.
"Aspir"
Aspir shook Bears hand in greeting.
"So my friend what's the problem? What could cause someone young like you to frivol their time away floating in a fountain," Aspir looked up at the giant and could only see his kind expression and sincere attitude so he decided to talk. He explained how things had been going well until the TVWT training had left him feeling sorry for himself. As Aspir spoke about it, he slowly realised how stupid he had been and how he had just acted like an idiot.
Listening to his story Bear nodded his head in understanding and roared at the end with laughter, beating the ground with his hand making it shake.
"So you've been recruited by a tall athletic female instructor to an exclusive worldwide Dojo, and felt sorry for yourself so you decided to float in the fountain." Now that his story was being said back to himself Aspir could only let out a small laugh at how silly his reaction had been.
"Feel better?" surprisingly Aspir did. Even though he hadn't known Bear long it was just good to have someone to talk too. After all, he didn't have many family members to speak to and the friends that he still kept in touch with were away most of the time.
<Bear has requested to add you as a friend>
<Do you accept? Yes/No>
<Bear has been added as a friend>
"Now then we can't sit here all day," with Bears words he stood up, his tall figure towering down over Aspir. "I think it's time you started back on your adventure, times short enough as it is, and I've work to be done."
Aspir also rose to his feet barely reaching the centre of Bear's chest.
"Soooooo...."
Bear prolonged his question as he looked down at Aspir flashing his trademark grin.
".......do you need any weapons?" opposite to Bear's standard smile, his current smile looked almost devilish as he brought his hands down upon Aspir's shoulders. This was how Aspir lost almost all his money to his new 'friend'.
It turned out that Bear was a blacksmith, the shop where he took Aspir was the shop where he was working. Though according to Bear the owner of the shop was barely ever there so he treated it as his own for now until he managed to open his own store.
This was how Aspir finally acquired a sword and shield.
<You have equipped Shoddy Iron sword>
<An iron sword found in most blacksmiths, its sole purpose to be used by beginners as they can't afford anything better.>
<Attack +3>
<Unbalanced - May effect the damage inflicted and stability when swung>
<You have equipped Basic Wooden shield>
<A basic wooden shield with no redeeming features. Even a goblin wouldn't want to be seen with this in public. Looks strangely similar to a barrel lid.>
<Defence + 3>
The sword had cost Aspir 2 silvers whilst the shield was 35 coppers. Luckily Bear had given Aspir a map of Melis so he wouldn't get lost, he had even marked his own shop on there for Aspir. A good friend or a good businessman?
Despite asking Bear about armour, it seemed that the cheapest armour's early game were at least 8 silver and above. Aspir alone getting 2 silvers from Old Hod so soon was apparently rare as most players were working for coppers. Bear himself was only getting 10 copper for a days work, truly extortionate. Though Aspir did wonder if he got commission.
Now that he finally had his equipment and knew where to go, it was time to level up and put his training to the test.
It was time he entered the <East Meadows>
