After we ate I washed up, said good night to my mother and sis as I hopped up in my room and went to bed. We live on a hilltop at the edge of the village, and my room is the attic with a wide window with a view of the land. From my bed I can see almost every house and shop in the village and the outer walls of the city of Tretopolis. A while ago when I slept here I would watch the night sky as the shooting stars come by. But since the military got new equipment and airships, the city lights up so bright that I can’t see anything. It’s become quite depressing every night, until something strange happened. Another earthquake happened but during the earthquake, an explosion happened within the city, not big but bright enough to know it’s an explosion. After about an hour of fire and smoke it disappeared. I couldn’t sleep after that moment.
Many weeks past and nothing was heard of an explosion from within the city. But during those weeks demands for tin and silver went up as the military came in and checked up on us more. Then I saw an unusual piece of contraption that seems to be moving on 6 wheels. It drove on till it reached next to the mine; thankfully I was safe in the bread shop. Two men in uniforms came out and told everyone to sit up straight, as everyone did so, a man in a much bigger uniform came out, his uniform was sparkling with silver and gold and he had a beard and mustache like no other man in the village, he wore a hat that had ribbons and had an eagle on the front, he walked up to the mine and ordered people out of there and some of the soldiers went down in there. After about a few minutes they came out and shook their heads in agreement. Soon many more trucks came by with equipment like Ive never seen, they turned a giant machine on and pulled a hose down into the mine. Soon soldiers ordered everyone but the town men to leave the mining section.
I was in my bedroom watching all the military men moving stuff from out of the mine. It was odd to me, I asked literally everyone what was happening and no one knew either. Id figure it was a contamination procedure because there would be something toxic in the mine, but soldiers keep going in and out with out protected masks on so I don’t know what’s happening. It was like this all night till about 2 am when everyone left and my mother left the house to see Uncle Hector who was worn out and covered with coal. A couple of hours later my mother returned home and went to bed without saying a word.
I went back to the mine to find it completely destroyed, nothing but rocks, then I saw some people heading another direction to find a metal building with a elevator in it.
“What’s going on?” I asked a villager.
“They said that the old mine was unstable so they got what resources they could get and then destroyed it with dynamite.”
“Then they used a drill to make a new mine that leads a mile away.” Says another villager.
As that was happening people were going down, men and women.
“So their just letting people going down there, even women?” I asked as people were ignoring me, so I thought I could check it out. But before I went even further a soldier stopped me.
“No children allowed, go home brat.”
“What, how come?”
“Rules boy, now go home.”
So I walked backwards and went to the bread shop where Aunt Calla wasn’t there, no one, so I just went to the counter and stared out the window where people went down and down till mostly everyone was gone, why are they going down there, what’s down there. What was with that explosion at the city?
