I thought I was dead but then why when I opened my eyes did I see the same my room again?
Feel the softness of my duvet and the warmth of the sunshine on my face.
I sat up when I heard a knock on the door.
Enya waltzed into the room with a stern look on her face.
“You got the sickness, again didn’t you?”
The sickness refers to these fits I’ve been having ever since I was little. They usually happen when someone acts violently towards me but sometimes they are unprovoked. Mother believes they are a sign of Satan possessing me and that the only way to treat them is to make a self-sacrifice for God.
“Please don’t be mad at me I didn’t mean to do anything “I begged her.
“It does not matter what you mean to do, God knows your real intentions”.
I burst out into tears. I desperately didn’t want to upset my mother and she was the only family I’ve ever had to displease her was the worst thing I could ever do.
“How can I make it up to you Mother?” I sobbed
“You know what to do child” She said with an Icy glare.
We walked down to the kitchen as she boiled a pot of water on the stove. The best method was to boil the sin away using a pot.
Most of my Burns have healed but they left nasty scars over the years with which I hide with bandages over my right arm.
If anyone ever asked I just said I tripped over and nobody questioned further as it was a well-known fact that I am quite clumsy.
Just as I was about to place my hand in the steaming pot. The front door slammed open and Emma and Sophie stood in the doorway.
“OH MY GOSH what are you doing Anne?” Sophie wailed as she ran across the room and hugged me.
“Get away from her your sick bitch” Emma Screamed at Enya.
Mother turned to me with enraged and asked, “are these scum your friend’s Anne”.
“Yes, mother they are” I replied in shock at Emma’s harsh language.
“Don’t you see that she’s abusing you” Sophie sobbed.
“Abuse me? Mother has only loved and cared for me all my life. It’s true she was overprotective and obsessive but that’s because she truly loved me, right?” I tell my friends.
“No Anne that’s not what a parent should do, they don’t hurt their child ever” Emma said.
Sophie nodded her head in agreement still hanging on to me.
“Now I’m going to do what any good friend would and advise you to leave this toxic relationship”
I could see the truth in what she was saying but that doesn’t mean I could just leave I didn’t have anywhere else to go.
I was pondering this when an idea struck me I could ask Cain and Isaac if I could stay with them I’m sure they would let me since I know their secret after all.
Even though it would break my heart I had to get away from Mother long enough to think about what Emma had just implied.
“Ok, I’ll leave” I said walking away from the boiling water.
“Let’s go then” Sophie said gently leading me to the door.
I must have imagined her being so rough yesterday as now she seems like the meek and lovely Sophie I’ve known all my life.
As I was about to leave with Sophie and Emma Enya fell to the floor and clung onto my ankles begging me to not go.
“PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME ANNE YOU DON’T KNOW HOW STRONG SATAN'S POWERS ARE THEIR GOING TO EAT YOU EAT YOU!””
I pry my ankle away from her distressed at all the creepy things she was saying. Without a hesitation, I closed the door and ran into the street with Sophie and Emma close behind.
