I didn't sleep well that night. The same image of Cains dead eyes and Isaac sickening smile replayed over and over again in my head until their faces became contorted and blurred. It didn't help that my arm hurt like hell and there was a dull throb behind my eyes.
I got out of my bed to my pitch black bedroom. It was a small but cosy room with a simple desk, a bedside table, and bookshelf. However, in the darkness, the room appeared much more sinister. The shadows leapt out the corner of my eye but returned to their places once I turned my head and everything just seemed so still unnaturally still in the dark.
It spooked me enough to get me out of bed and peer out of the window to see some sign of life to combat the unsettling room. But alas nothing moved outside even the wind didn't sway the tree branches. The moon stared back at me as I glanced at it.
That's when I noticed the figure standing behind me. It was only a silhouette against the dark but I felt its presences behind me.
I felt its eyes travel up and down my body leaving shivers without even lifting a finger.
those eyes seemed to pin my body into place as I could do nothing but try not to make a sound.
A few seconds past and my patience grew thin maybe I was just imagining it, after all, my overtired brain was playing tricks on me of course.
So taking the biggest gulp of air I was brave enough to take. I quickly whipped around and heard a startling shriek that seemed to rock the earth.
It was the most dreadful sound I had ever heard it was like nails on a chalkboard. The shrieks continued as I felt warm liquid running down the sides of my face.
Confused I touched my face and bright red blood appeared on my hands while I felt my nose and eye sockets start to bleed simultaneously with my eyes.
Terrified I crumpled to the shaking ground and sobbed along with the screaming and rattling going on in the room.
The next thing I remember is waking up to the sun shining on my pale face.
jumping up alarmed I looked around the room everything was neat and tidy like the earthquake hadn't happened.
I also glanced out the window curiously everything appeared bright and cheerful I could see birds chirping and children playing jump rope and hopscotch down the road.
Everything was peaceful and serene.
Next, I checked my hands and face for any blood in the mirror. My eyes appeared a little puffy and swollen but other than that there wasn't even a scratch on my face.
"That's weird' i said aloud to no one in particular.
Deciding that it was all just a horrible dream I made my bed and got ready for school.
As I was just putting my shoes on and about to leave my room. My foot hit something hard on the carpeted floor.
I looked under my foot and found a necklace. Attached to that necklace was a gold crucifix it looked like an antique and not something I had ever owned before. The metal-like texture of it felt cool in my hands.
I stared at it furrowing my brows but made the decision to keep it in my pocket as I walked out of my room.
