"Holy mother of Christ, Dante! If you don't hurry up, I'm going to have to kick the door down and beat you with it!" Loud knocking rang around the house as Olivia fumed. It was a very natural occurrence in the Sawyer household, for it sheltered seven individuals, each with different routines.
“Calm down Liv! Hair like this doesn’t look that fabulous on its own!” Dante called from beyond the door. Olivia groaned and pounded at the door again. It was no use. There were three bathrooms in the house; her parents’, which was strictly for them, the west wing one, which was shared by Emma and Aria, and this one, which she, Dante, and Juniper had to share. They were all in their teens and that meant that makeup and hair took way too much time. If only, she cursed, none of us were so vain, maybe, just maybe, mornings would go smoother.
Olivia wanted to cry, curl up and weep. “Dante, just because you’re gay, that doesn’t give you a right to hog the fucking bathroom!” Here they were, three people, each with a ten minute morning ritual, and only fifteen minutes until they had to get to school.
Olivia felt a small finger poke her back. “Pot calling kettle black,” Juniper chided. Apparently, Dante heard because a small snicker came from beyond the confines of the bathroom.
“You’re one to talk,” Olivia sneered, whirling around to face her. She stuck her pointer finger at her sister’s chest, glaring at her. “You take the longest to get ready!” Juniper shrugged nonchalantly, brushing off Olivia’s accusations. Before Juniper could say anything, the bathroom door swung open, and out stepped Dante, looking as fresh as the morning. While Olivia was turning around to face him, Juniper waltzed into the room and locked the door behind her. Juniper hid a snicker as she heard Olivia’s howl of betrayal and defeat.
Last day of school always meant some sort of party. Olivia knew that all too well. What she also knew was that her best friend Rose would drag her to one, whether she liked it or not.
"Liv~!" a sweet and familiar voice called out to her as she put away her books. Olivia fought the urge to smile and turned to her.
"Thorne," she greeted simply. Rose stopped in her tracks and pouted those perfectly pink and Cupid's bow lips, crossing her arms like a toddler.
"You know how much I hate that name," she whined. Olivia snickered. Her parents were cruel enough to name their child Rose Thorne. Olivia had cried laughing when she had first heard her full name.
She took a moment to take in Rose's outfit today. A white tank top to complement her golden skin, black shorts, tan strappy sandals... Rose was ready for summer. Her dyed aqua blue hair was put up in a bun. But her most attractive feature stood out the most; her bright smile that lit up the hallway and Olivia's heart.
Olivia smirked and took a step forward, leaning down next to Rose's ear to whisper, "Too bad." Rose took a step back, flustered.
"I- Well... Umm- I- Please stop," she stammered, crossing her arms again. Olivia chuckled and straightened up again.
"Nope." Olivia popped the 'p' and watched Rose react. She always loved watching her best friend go through a series of facial expressions before deciding which one was appropriate for the situation. It was like a cartoon character. It was also one of the things that attracted Olivia to her. Given, it was Rose that approached her first.
Olivia spat on the boy's unconscious body before turning around and leaving; fists numb, jaw aching, arms and legs tired. It served him right for giving her and her siblings shit for having two fathers.
"Hey, you there!" There was a voice. It was timid and squeaky, and Olivia wanted nothing to do with it. She kept walking. "Hey!" Olivia heard footsteps. Soon, a girl about her age stepped in front of her. "That was cool."
Olivia's eyes widened. That... was not what she expected. "But violence isn't always the answer." Olivia rolled her eyes. There it was...
"Whatever, get out of my way, shrimp. Or are you going to tell me about Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour next?" Olivia glared at her as she grinned brightly.
"No. I've never been to church before, so I wouldn't know," she replied. A smile twitched on Olivia's lips but was soon crushed by a frown.
"Okay. Have fun with that." That was the last thing she said to the girl.
Until she started following Olivia around every day after that.
"Oi! Mamacita y demonio!" someone called out to them. Olivia scrunched up her nose and turned to face her brother. He waltzed over to them with a bright grin and turned to Rose. "Did you tell her?" Olivia raised an eyebrow at Rose.
"Not yet," she replied.
"Tell me what?"
"Maya's having a party at her place to celebrate the end of the year. Her mom's on a business trip." Rose looked at Olivia with a smirk. Olivia frowned at that smirk.
“So?”
“So, we’re dragging you there with us!” Dante and Rose spoke in unison. It was a system they had developed over the years of dealing with Olivia’s social avoidance. Party? Rose would make sure she’d be there. Study group? Dante would make sure there were no more Poptarts left in the house unless she’d come. And Olivia hated it.
People were not her thing. Never have, never will. She hated social interaction and more than anything, she hated watching Rose interact with others. Possessive best friend? Hell yeah, she was. But could you blame her? Rose was the human embodiment of perfection.
“Look Liv, last day of school, last day to do stupid shit with your friends. You’re going to be busy all summer moving your shit to the West Coast and leaving us so you have to do this!” Rose had placed down her foot, which meant there was no room for argument. Olivia sighed and waved her off.
“Whatever.” The look of absolute joy on Rose’s face made it worth it. Next to her, Dante smirked knowingly. His sister was so predictable...
